The good part is - she didn't buy that horse! It was a little too spirited and headstrong for her. The bad news is - she and grandma are still looking.
They have been looking at horse ads for a couple weeks, ever since grandma came up with the grand scheme of how to swing it. Her 4H leader from last year is not doing it this year, and her new 4H leader doesn't have any spare horses. However, she does have lots of pasture and is willing to keep the horse there for nothing. So, grandma hears the word free, and right away wants to start buying stuff. Big, living stuff. This was the first one they went to look at, and now there's no stopping Tiff. I'm done for.
Anybody got a good horse for an 11 year old girl in her second year of riding? Call grandma if you want to sell it.
Next thing you know ole Mike will be buyin a horse trailer,then all the trappings ,then drivin Tiff to where you keep it to feed and excercise every day, and the list goes on and on and on...................
It has only just begun Mike. instead of fishing you will be off to this hores show or that one any free weekend you have. I tell you what Mike, you will be so busy horseing around that you might as well just sell Tyboo to me and then you will have all the time in the world for horse stuff......lol.....

Mike I have a neighbor that just bought his grandaughter a Mercedes SUV for her 16th. birthday. He sure did not do that for his daughter and I had to jab a little on that one. His response was that his 16 year old grand daughter is literally making him several hundred thousand dollars per year riding HIS quarter horses in competition all across the US. His grandaughter, Amanda, has been riding in competition since she was 8 or so and is VERY good at it. She is ranked #2 in her age group on a national level.
Ya see... Amanda trains and rides the horses her grandad breeds and raises. When Amanda od her horse does well in competition... people bid on and purchase the horse as a proven winner. Artie's horses go for $125 to $200 K a piece.
Now.. talk to grandmom and your grandaughter to see what they can do for you.. good luck! Butch

Hi Mike,
Yep your doomed, don't worry about gas, when you get the bill for feed ( Hay, oats, straw for bedding) not to metion the monthly bill from the ferrier and vet and who is going to clean out that stall ever day. Then there is all the stuff needed for groming almost forgot what about shelter in the winter new barn? Yep might as well take out another loan on the house, You might as well get her a car cheeper in the long run.

Our eleven-year old (and her Mom) bought a horse -- yep, there were hay bills, vet bills etc. and yes, all the horse shows -- but the ol' adage about buying a young girl a horse and she'll never get in trouble -- is true. She learned responsibility (she fed, groomed, cleaned etc), and confidence -- never a bit of problem as a teenager, and grew into a charming responsible adult. (Who's now thinking of a horse for her girls). Give a boy a boat and a fishing rod and a girl a horse and saddle -- it works better then any of the garbage the child psychologists prattle about. Good on ya, Mike -- git that cute kid a horse!!!

Mike- Maybe you can recoup some of the cost by shoveling all that horse stuff in the back of the Dodge, covering it with plastic, and piping the methane gas up to the Cummins? Maybe save enough on diesel so you can still afford gas to operate the boat if you can possibly find the time! Good Luck, Grampa!!!

This is the latest possibility. It is owned by Tiff's new 4H leader (or her daughter) and is already in the pasture we're going to use. Tiff rode this one today, and it was perfect for her. The owner isn't sure if it is for sale or not.
I don't like the floor boards in the boat cockpit anyway, so I figure to save a few bucks by ripping the floor and the rear bulkhead out of the TyBoo and letting it double as a horse trailer.
