Good to see you back here Dave. You don't post much anymore. Sorry we didn't see you at the boat show.

Hi Roger, I have a good friend that has an exotic animal and cattle ranch in south central Washington that wanted to buy a pivot irrigated 160 acres to grow more of his own alfalfa. It was run down but had good water rights so he asked me if I would go over there and get the pivot rebuilt and in good working order if he did buy it, and I said yes. Well he bought it and I am over there and will be for the next couple of years or longer. This year I will take my stretched 16 over there and do some mid-Columbia and Snake River cruising. I will spend a little more time on the C-Brats and will probably post a little more often.

I had hoped to make the Seattle Boat Show get together but I am having some test done and may have to have a back and/or neck operation. It seems like they may be slightly broken, won’t know for sure until Friday. I thought it was arthritis at first but that has been ruled out. It has not slowed me down much but I do have to admit I do hurt and haven’t been able to sleep for more than two hours at a time in the last two years. To top that off I was going over The Dalles Mountain eight days ago from the main ranch to the pivot and was unable to stop when I started down the north slope. I was going between ten and fifteen miles per hour when I crested the mountain and when I touched the breaks the truck went into a slide and continued to pick up speed sliding on the ice until it went off the road and rolled. That didn’t help the neck and back.

I am still OK just a little sorer than before but a back brace helps the leg and back pain but not the neck and shoulders. Right now I am at my place in Rochester waiting for more test on Friday then heading back to the pivot and then the main ranch to help with the calving.

Sounds like I missed a good get together at the Silver Cloud and Taproom. I really hope I have time for the Friday Harbor get together.

Oh dear! Sorry to hear it! Take care of yourself, you are one of a kind!

Charlie

Indeed. For any new folks on here, Dave is known as the "baby Daddy" of the Marinaut. He is known to Joan and I as one of the first C-Brats we met after we picked up Wild Blue... quiet and considerate. He came down to the Swantown Marina each day for the time we were there, just to see how we were doing with the new boat.

And when you read about his "stretched 16", he decided he needed a bit more room (and wanted saddle gas tanks) in his CD-16... so, with the help of a family member of the original C-Dory creators, he sliced the boat in two and built in two more feet! I saw the boat in Bellingham in 2007 - it was perfect!

"One of a kind" is a very accurate description, Charlie.

Take care, Dave - we send our wished that all goes well with your test and that the docs can get you pain-free.

Best wishes,
Jim & Joan

Damn, Dave. Sorry to hear about the spinal problems. Nothing like back/neck pain to make one appreciate a healthy spine. Take care of yourself but keep on moving!

Aloha,
Mark

Dave,

Sorry to hear of the back/neck problems and the wreck. Not fun. Hope things will turn soon. Have missed your posts here lately too.

Sounds like some good plans for C Voyager. Before SleepyC I spent some time on the Columbia and Snake. Keep a weather eye to the west. When that sky turns dark things can get real interesting, real fast. There is free launching at the Walla Walla Yacht Club facility, Port Kelly, but you have to park outside of the YC fenced area, (about a 100 yard walk). They don't advertise that but it is a Corp of Engineers requirement/agreement.

As you know, I'm sure, Arlington can be really blowy.

Dave,

Sorry to hear about the health issues but glad to hear you'll be posting a bit more. One of these days, I'll manage to get over that way to see the animals.

Take care,
