Picked up a 2005 C-Dory 22 cruiser today in Puget Marina in Olympia. Blew a tire on I-5 Tacoma in 3pm traffic. Not fun.
Les Schwab in Puyallup installed 4 new D range radials and we were back on the road by 5:30pm. They are a great company to do business with.
Tonight in a Auburn, Wash. motel. On the road in the morning heading for Anchorage.
The C-Dory is almost completely covered with shrink wrap so it looks like a large condom stretched over it.
Honk and give a wave if you see us tomorrow.

Awesome. I had to pay a visit to Schwabs on my return trip form picking up the boat, had I not we would have not made it. They were great to work with. Enjoy your trip and your boat!

Incidentally, I took my Durango to Les Schwab here in Redding last Monday, and they took nails out of two tires and vulcanized the penetrations, rotated and balanced all four, and checked out all the entire brake system. Total cost: $0.00! Hard to find deals like that in today's economy! :smiled

I'll be back to buy the next set of tires from them for about $800 next year.

And four new tires for my C-Dory trailer, too! :wink

I am told that back in the day Les Schwab provided free flat tire repairs only for women. The company was challenged with discrimination. Les Schwab's answer to the controversy was, "Ok, I won't charge anyone then".
 
Additionally, all of the Les Schwab employees are clean cut, respectful, and move about sharply to take care of each customer!
 
We'll look for you as you head through Bellingham. We'll be out running errands, so who knows. In B'ham Les Schwab is where we get our tires. They have always given us a fair deal with outstanding service.
 
Wow jack another one. Last time I saw you in prince George you were headed back to Alaska with your 26 foot pro angler. Have a good trip hope to see you out on the chuck somewhere this summer.
 
Why the second boat?

If I remember right, Jack's just transporting a C-Dory to Alaska for another C-Dory owner who's paying his gas to do so.

Jack is making his annual return to his summer home in Alaska from the southern 48, where he spends the winters.

Joe has it spot on. This is the 3rd CD I have towed to Alaska.
The border gestapo at Sumas gave me a little grief but let me go after reading all of the paperwork I had.
We are in Williams Lake, BC tonight. Took a little time to stop at the CD factory but no one there. Damn the luck.
I did buy a 7-5 flat electric adaptor accross the road from them so I could back up the boat without jambing a big screw driver in the brake "dooby dobber". Works fine now.

As an aside....the Goodyear shop at the Tacoma port road off of I-5 were absolutely brain dead and of no help. They had no tires for the trailer, had no idea when they could get any and did not know of any other tire shop in the area. There was two shops within a mile. They were of no help either.
Les Schwab....excellent, professional, fast and reasonable price.
Yes I still have my 26' ProAngler and love it so far after two seasons. I think this one will take me to my grave, ie...my last boat. It burns way more fuel than my 22' classic but what the hell did I work for retirement money for??

Jack, was the old High Tide in the water at Deep Creek in the mid-80s. I remember seeing the Red Fox and one other 22 Angler in those days. I went through several increasingly larger boats til I got my 22 Cruiser in 1995. Saw you many times but never had an opportunity to meet you. Don't get down that way much anymore since I had two kids - they are 2 and 4 (and I am 52). I really miss the pre-tractor launch days, tent camping on the beach and a two king salmon a day limit.

I have nothing but good words for the Les Schwab here in Anacortes. Glad to hear that it is not an anomaly but corporate culture.

Yes my old HIGH TIDE was at Deep Creek starting in late 1983. I used it there until 2009 when I sold it to my son Dan. He uses it out of Whittier now.
I miss the old days at Deep Creek. 300 RV's on Mem. Day and July 4th. Fist fights over nothing. Shooting barking dogs at night etc. It is pretty calm there now. All of those fishing skiffs are gone. There used to be bow numbers from every state in the union. No more. Maybe 12 boats trolling in the mouth of Deep Creek when the kings are in.
You had better get down there this summer. There will be lots of room. Only one king per day now though.

Jack, we always camped on beach about a half mile N of Happy Valley, so unless we were the ones getting rowdy it was usually pretty quiet. I did get to see a brand new Chevy 4X4 get stuck and taken by the tide and a couple of boats broach on the beach but that was about it for excitement.

Guess gas prices has probably put a dent in the traffic down there lately. If the pressure has dropped that much maybe the beach bite is back for first run fish - just might have to make a trip or two, but would probably be in my 18 Bayrunner since it is still parked at a friends down there.
