Spent two days in Da Nag country checking out 16 cruisers and anglers. Came up with a little gem.

Would you believe a 17 year old CD16 Angler with 116 original hours on the 50 hp outboard? Stored in a barn? Recent impeller and full service? Full camper canvas back? Original Pacific galvanized trailer with only a couple of small rust spots some rotted carpet and NEW tires (tag still on the spare)? Professional looking 15 gallon (guesstimate) fuel tank installed? Oh, and a 35 lb. thrust trolling motor along with Scotty rod holders, down riggers, and assorted electronics? The electronics are as expected, obsolescent or just plain junque.

Enter the newest toy in the Anderson SoCal driveway, the HONKY DORY!

Whoever owned it originally definitely had a sense of humor and an aversion to putting holes in the boat. Very few holes, a couple of scrapes, shiny gel coat, pristine, considering it's age.

Excellent price. MUY excellent! Closer to NADA price than CD marketplace price. Towed it home today and some time in the next week I'll get to the very few needed repairs. (mostly bunker carpet replacement) check for CG required stuff and take it on a proper sea trial.

Special thanks to Da Nerd for his stellar cell phone performance as my personal "outboard mechanic on call" and his post purchase evaluation. He saved me a bit more in the process.

Congratulations Don! I know you were busting at the seams to announce this!! :love You know, in order to replace the bunk carpet, you'll be FORCED to put it in the water. And when you do, you'll be running around in the ocean and unable to do the trailer job... Better hire someone!

Sounds like a fantastic deal, no it WAS a fantastic deal!

Indeed, an awesome boat and quite the steal...poor guy didn't know what hit 'em!

Now - get some pics up!

Congrats on the new boat Don. Now you can join the flotilla heading to Catalina. That would put two sweet 16s on Catalina (most likely a first). You and C-Pup.

Don,

Congrats on the new boat and the good buy! Being a C-Brat is as much a matter of mind and heart as it is possession of the boat. And we all know your heart has always been in the right place.

We'll be looking forward to some photos of the new vessel. :photo

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Thanks Roger et al. I think Keith has about a 14" draft with all the extra "stuff" he carries. I'm surprised his wife still travels with him. She must be tiny....

Seriously, it's gonna feel good to be back on the water again, and I learned my little 4 banger Tacoma hauled it without protest - even up the Grapevine.

Now comes the nerdy fun part. Deciding what GPS/sounder to install. Later on I'll do the biggest project - repowering with an EFI 50. Probably Yamaha. Can one buy "refurbished" EFI's yet?

With that shiny gel coat, a casual bystander would never know it isn't a late model boat. Especially after I hang a modern outboard back there! (sigh) happiness is. Oh, as an addendum, Pacific Trailer sells bearing/seal kits for about $11 each wheel plus UPS shipping. Good backup investment.
