One more - Steering wheel with spinner

Looks like a great idea. I see you can buy on that just bolts up or buy a new wheel.

Anyone using one or the other and likes or dislikes?

They look handy for docking etc...

I have put the Edison Power knob on several of the boats. They work very well. I consider them almost an essential. especially for docking
 
Oh I like that one, the way it boils on is really clean. SOLD! Thanks guys so much, I can always count on C-Brats. Our new Venture 23 is almost done, they are a little behind at the factory right now, about 3 weeks. Hope we can pick her up mid May. Still waiting for the Suzuki kicker motor as well.

But I'm going to order this spinner right now.

Maybe this is a good time for me to ask a question I've often considered, but have never decided. I too really like the looks of the knob localboy pointed out, and I'm tempted to get it. However, although I easily see the advantage of having such a knob when you have to spin the helm quickly, I've always worried that all the rest of the time that knob might get in the way. I visualize myself making a quick 3/4 turn of the helm wheel without really paying attention and whacking my hand on that knob.

For those of you that have such a knob, is my concern a non issue??

Personally I don't care for the knob. Yes, it has some utility in certain situations. The rest of the time, not so much.
 
Check online auto parts “steering wheel spinner knob” there are lots available for under $20. Cheap enough to try and discard if you don’t like it. I like the one that came with my boat. It has held up fine for the 10 years I’ve had the boat.
 
The Edson knob has roller bearings, the cheap ones, no bearings.

No I have never felt that the know was in the way or a health hazard.
 
1. Dr Bob is correct; plastic ball bearing design within the one I posted.
2. I’ve never collided any portion of my anatomy on the knob.
3. It does help when maneuvering in tight quarters.
4. I had to trim off the foam covering on our wheel to mount it. If you have a S/S wheel it will be even easier.

Going back about 47 years I had just bought my first Jeep(1967 Commando). I was into off roading and thought it was a tractor. Decided a wheel knob was what it needed. Back then you could buy them at any auto parts store(they are now illegal to use on the road here). The first rock or log I hit spun the wheel around in my hands and the knob gave me a crack on the knuckles that I have not forgotten. Took it off as soon as I got home.

That story was just for entertainment - on a boat I like the look of the knob on the small stainless wheels. Never had one but I imagine they would be helpful in docking situations. I have seen ones where they can be folded back out of the way when not needed.

Have never been a fan of the "knob", but that's a personal thing, I guess. On the truck, car and boat I can put one finger through/by the spoke and turn the wheel lock to lock. For docking (ah yes, with twins), I use the gear and throttle levers and leave the wheel at straight up centered. NO need to get all that exercised about spinning a wheel :lol: 8)

The ol "necker knob" back in the day. Had one on my '56 Chevy pu when I was a young adult. Quite handy.

From the interwebs:
"necker's knob (plural necker's knobs) (idiomatic, slang, dated) A knob attached to the steering wheel of an automobile, especially before the widespread availability of power steering, helping the driver steer with one arm and leaving the other arm free to provide romantic attention to a companion."
