Orcas Island - East Sound

Going to Orcas Island this upcoming week and arriving by boat. Planning to be with family in a cabin/house near Eastsound, but on the North tip of the island rather than in the bay.

Trying to figure out good places to fish, crab and harvest oysters and clams from there. Also, the house we are staying at does not have a dock or buoy, so we are needing to leave the boat at a Marina. We will likely keep it at Brandts landing as it is close by and also is on the big water side and closer to the fishing. If anybody has some comments on Brandts Landing, I would love to hear them. If there are other marina's that would be better for mooring, I would be open to hearing about those as well.

Anybody with suggestions on places to visit and recommendations on where to drop crab pots and find the kings would be much appreciated.

This will be the first time going this far with our boat, so any suggestions, even ones which might seem obvious would be much appreciated. Also of note, others in our group are arriving by car, so we will have some land transportation available as well.

Update

We found another possible marina which only accepts boats on a first come first serve basis. It is called West Beach Resort (Marina). They do have gas there as well as a small store. Including Parking fees, the cost is around $10 per night more than Brandts ($35 vs $25).

Since we have never seen either place before, its hard to know which way to go.

If anyone here is familiar with these facilities, can you please provide your recommendation.

Thanks,

Fish early season kings at Obstruction pass around tide changes. Tailgate behind any 27' C-Dory you find in there and you get one. Fish right on bottom

Don't believe crabbing is open until the middle of July in that area.

We will be crossing into Canadian waters to crab. We will need 5 day permits from Canadian fish and game. Hopefully it will be worth it.
