My Aunt lives in Auburn Wa. with three others in a 4500 sq/ ft. rental house....and the other night she was telling me about how much her utilitys are..... and I just can't believe the numbers she was giving me...

Could someone give me a idea if this could be true ?? Could this really be what utilitys cost up there ???

She is like me....a tourist in the land of reality...

For one month....

Electric and gas................... $1184.52
Sewer and water..................$ 469.44
Trash..................................$ 239.49 (that would be almost $60 a week)
Direct TV.............................$ 379.48
Telephone and Internet ........$ 86.56

And that does not even count for her RENT.... heck... I just can't imagine utility bills like that.....

I live in Shoreline (North Seattle) and dont pay anything near what you are describing. Something is obviously wrong (illegal ? ).

Our Sewer bill runs $35.
Gas can be as high as $140 - but we use it for hotwater, heat, dryer.
Electric is usually around $40.
Comcast for TV - around $44.
Trash is I think around $30.

These are all monthly rates.

Joel call the companies with the address and say you are think of buying it and need to know what the utilities were last year. Most will tell you on the phone.

Joel, your aunt can't expect to raise a decent cash crop indoors without spending about that much on energy.

Otherwise, the figures don't pass sanity checks. DirectTV you can check online. Unless, of course, Bernie Madoff was dividing up the invoices between all four renters....

Yes...with that electric bill I would expect to see the DEA at her door soon... and I always thought she was kinda a straight little ole lady...

Joel, I really don't understand her concern over that electric bill. Shoot, money should be no object for her when she cashes in on the harvested crop!

(Seriously, something ain't right!)

Joel,

We lived in Auburn for five or six years in a 3600 sqft house with two kids, non-insulated windows and a bunch of birds that needed warm temps to survive. Our bills were not even close to that. Perhaps she is paying those bills quarterly instead of monthly.
