Matt's last update from Iraq. He's headed Stateside this weekend.
hey all,
as of right now i have 4 days until my return trip begins and 9 days until my arrival stateside. so, this will be my last update from iraq. we have been really busy breaking in our replacements and finishing up all the redeployment packing and paperwork...plus doing multiple missions daily. it doesnt matter anymore though...nothing can keep us down. 2 more days of work and 2 days of last minute packing and preparation, then the long journey home to my beautiful wife....and tacos guaymas. ;o)
nothing much is new though...i did get pinned sergeant. i posted some pics on the yahoo photos site. i got pounded again as expected, then they poured a whole cooler of icecold gatorade on me from behind. the ways guys show their love huh? there is definately a strong comradery within the scout platoon. they have alot of confidence in me as their doc...as they should cuz i am good ;o)
well, it has been a long eventful year which i have no desire to repeat, and i am extremely grateful to be one of us who made it alive to come home. my heart will always ache for those we lost and i they will never be forgotten. all gave some, some gave all.
Luke, WIA (miss your coffee and sarcasm...congrats on your marriage and the soon-to-be little luke)
Thomas, WIA (returned to duty when he should be at home recovering...my bama buddy)
Sampson, WIA (gorditaaaa!)
White, WIA (whutup homes)
Connor, WIA (eod guru)
Moon, WIA (dale earnhart of robots)
Grimes, KIA (miss the constant lessons and endless knowledge)
Eacho, KIA (you are the ultimate soldier in every way)
Twyman, KIA (you really are america's finest...as a cop and a soldier)
McGowan, KIA (do they have bagpipes and rugby in heaven?)
Martinez, KIA (we got them for you buddy)
Vaugn, KIA (what can i say bro...i will miss your hugs and your retard strength and friendship forever)
i will always remember your courage and how you sacrificed for the freedom of a country not even your own. to those WIA, may you have the speediest of recoveries and may God bless you! to those KIA, may you rest in eternal peace and may God keep your families in your love and His!
LOST BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN!
there are many more soldiers wounded or killed in action. i have named only those who i worked with. our brigade has lost more soldiers in this year than all the other units at fort carson combined. i only hope it is towards a greater good...which is hard to believe when i remember their faces and the great times we had together. i have posted pictures of these KIA on my yahoo photos site.
http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/dinorasmatt/my_photos there are also some new pics up of my promotion and other.
well, i am getting ready to mark yet another day off the calendar! i will wake up to the 21st and my second to last day of work! =o) hey angel, tell tacos guaymas to start making my tacos now so they will be ready when i walk through the door.
it is with great joy that i sign off on this last of updates from iraq. i have served well, and am ready to pass my post over to the next joe in line.
