Parking in San Francisco Bay

journey on

OK, next month we're leaving to spend a couple of months in (actually, on) San Francisco Bay. Where is a good place from which to launch and where we could leave the truck and trailer for a couple of months?

We tried Rio Vista years ago, but is there a closer place to SF Bay? South SF Bay?

Boris, I know it is a ways out of your way, but you are welcome to stage your equipment at my home in western El Dorado County. About 35 miles east of Sacramento. I have 10 acres in a secure rural area. Plenty of room to park.

You could launch on the Sacramento River in Sacramento or anywhere in the Delta and have a nice float down to the bay. We could coordinate to get you from my house back to the launch location.

You might contact Bill, the General Manager at the Outboard Motor Shop in Alameda. He is a great, easy going guy. The Outboard Motor Shop is the Bay Area C-Dory Dealer. I am sure that there are several launch ramps in the area. Also, you might investigate the Petaluma area on the Napa River.

Berkeley Marina on the east side of the bay is a pretty good place to park. I don't know for sure what the long term limit is but I've launched from their many times. There's several large parking lots and one with a fresh water wash at the top of the boat ramp.

Berkeley marina is nicely positioned for good access to all of the major destinations around the central bay (SF, Sausalito, San Rafael, Oakland, Alameda, etc) and points north (San Pablo Bay, Suisun Bay). Call the marina office at 510.981.6740 for long term parking info.
