Pat and Patty Are Touring the American Southwest!

As my FB friends know, Patty and I are currently on a sightseeing tour of the American Southwest with Bill and El. We are in Santa Fe, N.M. right now. Yesterday I bought a new Odell Borg High Spirits Native American Flute from Sky Redhawk at Native Sounds in downtown Santa Fe. It is gorgeous (inlaid with turquoise), sounds great, and plays considerably better than my other NAFs. So I now have to seriously divide my time among ocarina, whistle and NAF! I will never be great on any of them, I know that, but I just enjoy the heck out of all of them. Here is a pic of Sky Redhawk and me in his shop.

Today we are headed for Cortez, CO, where we'll be doing the Mesa Verde National Park. Bill's sister-in-law Kathy Fiero was the archeologist in charge of the preservation and stabilization of the site. Then after that we'll be headed to Moab, UT, The Arches and other places we have not seen, before heading back to Lakewood! Quite a trip! We were only expecting to go to Santa Fe, so the rest of the sightseeing is icing on the cake!

Pat,

Very cool! I love Native American flute music! I hope to hear it echoing in the canyons at LP!!

Arches secret... Be in at daybreak, out by 10:00, back in an hour before sunset. Otherwise, you're fighting hoards of touri. Just north of Blanding, there is a nice BLM CG that is a good place to stay to explore that area. Try and get into Cedar Mesa. The hike into Mule Canyon is great, and you're rewarded with a wonderful shot of the House on Fire dwelling. Many other great places in that area.

Hope to see you and Patti at Lake Powell.

"Moabarch" is Tom Williams. His daughter Jen was one of our daughter Lydia's best friends and was a bridesmaid in Lydia's wedding! We got Jen's cell phone from Lydia, we will probably give her a call when we get there! Maybe we will hook up with Tom, maybe not, but we will give it a try!

Pat-There is a C-Brat named Tom ('Moabarch') who lives in Moab. He helped us out in planning our last trip out there. At the time he had a 25 footer, like yours.

So happy to hear of your travels. Please post a tune on the new flute. There is so much talent of all kinds on this site. Just look at Steve's photos above!

Marty - we tried to hook up with Tom Williams, exchanged emails. He is out of state until Thursday, and we are leaving the area tomorrow.

R&T - we flew to Denver and are staying/traveling with Bill and El. Today we were at Mesa Verda National Park. Here we are at the Spruce Tree House ruins!

I usually try to post only pictures of people in interesting places, not pictures of just the places! But this one was so breathtaking, I wanted to share it! This is the Colorado River from Dead Horse Point State Park, just outside Canyonlands National Park. I had to overcome my completely rational fear of high places to take this picture, I was right at the edge of a 2,000 foot sheer cliff, with only a stupid three foot stone wall between me and certain death.

We crammed a lot in today, Dead Horse Point State Park, Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park, plus lunch at Moab Brewery (very good)! This is a trip we will remember for a long time!

After! We did Dead Horse State Park and Canyonlands, then went back to Moab for lunch, and the on to Arches! I am not kidding about the "certain death" part. My knees were jelly and I was hyperventilating! Anything to get a great shot!

Was the brewery before or after standing 3' from "certain death"?

Pat and Patti,

Glad you had such a neat trip. No way to see it all in such a short time. But what great guides to get a taste of the spectacular. (Dead Horse Point, I agree, scary but worth it.)

Loved the pictures, Steve, and hope to hear of the music on that new flute Pat.
