Pat's Countdown!

My iPhone app says 63 days to retirement, but that is calendar days, fewer than 40 working days! Last day of actual w0rk will be December 20. What will that mean? This past weekend the sun was shining at Birch Bay, the water was calm, Patos, Matia and Sucia were calling! We could SO have been out there, Webasto keeping us toasty, having our sundowners on the cockpit, but we had to be back Monday morning - no more! Just one thing, there are thousands more I am sure we will discover! Little Loop with Two Bears, road trip to Colorado to see El and Bill, visit to Grand Junction to visit Russ and Toni, and we have not even started to think about what else!

Ah, Pat, my soon-to-be-retired friend; non-work days still count. While you are waiting for R-Day, there will be "projects" that have to be done on those non-work days. Enjoy all of them, the work days and the non - those are the end of this chapter. A good ending there makes for a great beginning on the next chapter.

There will still be things that need to be done, and generally on a time frame (even if self-imposed). Weather will continue to play a part. As I recall, there is a "post retirement job" waiting in the wings?

The BIG thing will not be Mondays dragging you back... it will be holidays, grandbaby events and other fun things. You'll be able to play that ocarina in the middle of the afternoon. You might even look forward to doing some work.

Congrats on clearing the two month mark. Hope the next 63 days pass pleasantly. :thup We are excited for you.

Best wishes,
Jim

Pat:

Congrats!! I just checked my app .... 912 days :cry You know I am jealous. On the other hand... by the time I am out, you will have it all worked out and can act as a mentor :D

Congrats Pat! So many choices! We don't have time for jobs. Deciding on north, south, east or west? In your case take the rv or boat? It is amazing how much work there is after jobs end. Have fun! George :thup

Pat

I practiced last summer and am back to work again, in Hawaii. I am going to practice again next summer and if I am good at it keep going.

Congrats and good luck. Come back to Alaska and meet us near Wrangell.

Way to go Pat. One day at a time (yup, there is a song by that name, and you can probably play it) and more importantly you will get there, one day at a time. Jim is right, "non-work days still count." just not as w@*k D@z. As long as you are upright and headed in the right direction those days will get you closer, "one day at a time". Patience my friend, will win the race.

Hope to get to hear the ocarina somewhere on the dock again in the not to distant future.

Have a great night and a super retirement.

Thanks all! Yes, I have a post-retirement job, but not demanding. Yes, grandbabies will play a major part in our retirement - Harper will be three in a couple of weeks, and her baby brother Asher will be born, and we can hardly wait to meet him! Bill and El - count on another visit! Bob - we will be in Florida in the fall of 2014, Apalachicola for sure! Alaska folks - I want to go back, but that is a tough sale for Patty! Jim - we still have to do a guitar - ocarina duet! To make that work, I need to learn some Jimmy Buffett, or you need to learn some Irish / Scottish tunes I guess!

Pat-

Retirement: Go for it!

In the meantime: Enjoy life day by day, at work or at play!

Retirement is nice, but real life goes on, both before and after retirement.

Still and all, it's nice not to have a job dictating your work week, just your own conscience and better half! (Hi, Patty!)

Crazy realization down the road: You miss the challenges and routines of your career. You'd be a wonderful consultant, and it would be fun, too! And pay for some boat goodies. Who'd a thunk it ? (I know you probably already have!)

Good on ya" !

Joe. :teeth :thup
