pee hole clogged

my honda 40 has consistent pee hole clogging. I saw tips on other post and have utilized the weed wackwer line and compressed air. Both give positive results but it is short lived. 10--30 minutes and the flow shuts down to a trickle again.

I assume Im dealing with a larger problem with corrosion and crud build up.
the engine is soaking in fresh water now, is there any chemical or solvet I can spray down the pee hole that would help? Is this an expensive cure? otherwise the engine runs strong. If I dont clear thr pee hole numerous times on a day trip the the overheat alarm will sound off.

m2cw is it's time to repair the water pump due to impeller breakdown
 
Hi Tom. Just to be clear here, I have never tried this. So, please wait for opinions from those here who know more than me. :)

Having said that, I know a fellow boat owner who solved his similar problem with SaltAway Flushes.

water pump and impeller have about 20 hours on them, both were changed about 6 months ago.

a local wrench not a marine engine mechanic told me to spray carb wd-40, then some card cleaner down the pee hole??? not sure about that?????

Certainly, there are a number of causes for the water evacuation port to put our less than optimal flow. A crapped-out impeller could do it. In my locale, small mud-dauber-like wasps get in all sorts of places and stucco them up with mud. The Honda 90 I have was out in a farm field for 10 years before I got it and it was seriously daubered-up. Might be worth a look. I removed the engine cover and took the small rubber hose off of the coolant water evac-hole to provide access. The dirt was all the way up into the hose as well as the metal tube.

Something to look at...

On edit, just saw where someone suggested spraying WD-40 down the hole. If it's mud, water's the better solvent. Compressed air can go a long way to assist as well.

Take your engine cover off and be sure the tube to the pee hole is firmly in place. Your pee could be leaking inside.

I thought I remembered someone I think Wild Blue getting an acid flush to rid the inside of his motor of any salt build up. Maybe send Wild Blue a pm if he does not chime in here. I know most people here don't agree but I was advised to get a new impellor done in my out board done every other year. For me if seems like cheap insurance. Some have found waiting a long time makes for frozen bolts trying to remove the lower unit if you operate in salt water. Then things get more expensive. Sometimes bugs make mud houses and or cocoons up in the motor by crawling up your pee hole on your outboard. Some tape a piece of sponge coated a dryer sheet to cover the entrance hole to keep critters from making a home in your outboard when they store for longer periods.

when i use weed wacker line or compressed air i connect direct to the brass fitting on the pee hole. the rubber hose is frree and clear--no bugs

Ill remove the brass fitting next perhaps some large bit are floating around and cant get thru the narrow pee hole

I had the same problem when i first got my C-Dory, tried vinegar in the Salt Away applicator , these only worked for awhile and than the Pee Hole stream would get clogged again.My water pump was not the problem it was calcium and other crud build up in the lower unit. I found it was just as quick to remove the cowling, free the hose from the fitting and work a thin,stiff wire into the water hose as far as it would go.This always unplugged the calcium buildup,some chunks were a couple of mm in size,than i would flush the motor with fresh water and the Pee Stream would be good and strong again. I pulled the brass nipple on the pee hole to give me a larger port to blow out any crud that could be stuck. I placed some small gas hose in the port so I would not get water in the exposed parts of the engine,.

when she started up she had very little water flow, then a few minutes later it was spiting water 15 feet, I let it run for 15 minutes screwed the nipple back on and replaced the small section of rubber hose.

when i restarted the engine the pee port flowed very good for about a minute then slowed back to a very light flow.

I guess I need to figure out how to clear the crud/ salt

If it is calcium buildup, you could try running it in hot CLR. It is sold for dissolving the calcium, lime, and rust out of the heater coils of coffee pots. It will work c old, but much slower.

We just did maintenance on our F115 Yamaha we took out the zinc's that are built into the engine there are 3 of them in the 115 yami then we put a hose into the hole you cannot believe the crap that came out of there .I also do the impeller every 200 hours or so .I run fresh water after every saltwater trip and do salt -away twice a yr.The pee hole runs very strong once in a while I need to clean out

Look at the zincs and clean out as needed and use salt-away or C L R this should do the trick
 
I picked up some CLR should I use it undiluted or cut it with water.

Tom i would cut it with water, l'm reading from the CLR instructions and it says for cleaning a coffee maker its ...1 part CLR to 8 parts water. I would try that and if that fails to do the job you can always try a more concentrated solution. Let you know how it works..i bought some but never tried it yet. Tug
 
I took off the brass nipple again, this time I found some sort of black rubber bits clogging the hole. I was very soft (not like the impeller)??? I let it run with the nipple off I cleared the blockage again.

I used the clr its soaking now. Im giong to run again this evening with thr nipple off after a good soak.
