Personal AIS Beacon

I just read about a new survival device in today's West Marine flyer, just approved by the FCC, it is a personal AIS beacon. I read more on the web it attaches to your PFD and when you manually activate it transmits an emergency AIS location signal to all AIS equipped vessels within about a 4NM range. It sounds really interesting just google personal AIS beacon.

Barry,

I read that too. Cool adjunct. Great if you and crew have it on your person and take a spill off the boat. Works great if your boat has AIS. Think I would want a PLB as well. It would be really cool if it was combined with a PLB or EPIRB device all in one unit. Sure looks like it could be a life saving device. If someone goes overboard, with an active AIS on them should make them easy to find in dark, fog or bumpy water.

Thanks for the post.
