Dan – you are 100% right about the ESA being a political thing. I have had land and timber taken away from me without compensation because of first the Bald Eagle then the Spotted Owl then the Larch Mountain Salamander.

With the Killer Whale, they will not take your land, just some of your boating and fishing rights, but I bet the people will start hollering then.

I have fought the ESA for more than 30 years and always lost. I almost wish your worse case scenario would happen, because then people may wake up to what it really is. A cheap way for the government to steal from us.

This is nothing. Just wait. The envirofacists will use "global warming" to implement their "final Solution". Privately used boats, airplanes, motorcycles, and anything else used for recreation will become "crimes against the environment".
 
Too often science overlooks a simple solution to a complicated problem, wouldn't the introduction of Viagra into J,K, and L pods help increase the numbers of these poor misunderstood mammals.... and possibly save the future of boating???? I'm not a marine biologist but I did spend the night at a Holiday Inn Express.

Enviro-political ethics and motivation aside, if they want to unencumber the Orca population in the PNW, they should put a stop to the daily human side show/zoo that follow them around like they were the Barnum and Bailey Circus of the waterworld. Did they list WHALE WATCHING specifically as a disturbing influence?

That's the thing with these watermellon (green on the outside, red in the center) enviro types. EVERY time they get their way people lose property rights, public access and money.

The Puget Sound Partnership is hosting several action area workshops to gain local perspective on the threats to Puget Sound. Here’s your chance to be heard. Join your neighbors and advocate for increased habitat conservation, smart land-use planning and healthy urban communities as strategies for improving the health of the Puget Sound. Public comment will be held at each workshop between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. at locations region wide.

Suggested Speaking Topics: Saving Our Uplands- What we do uphill impacts the quality of Puget Sound's waterways downstream.


We need to limit impervious surfaces upstream by conserving upland habitats and limiting poorly planned urban and suburban development. Current land use patterns place working forests and farm lands at risk. Those working forests and farm lands are critical for filtering and slowing rainwater before it reaches the Sound.
Complete, compact, connected neighborhoods and communities provide choices for future generations. By building new homes near transit and in walkable neighborhoods, new growth will not compromise natural areas, working farms or forests and therefore will help to limit the impact on our precious waterways.

Here's a good example why it's often unwise to talk politics or religion at family dinners--Milehog, as a "watermellon", in your words, I have an opinion about your point of view--but I'm too polite to post it here. Go in peace. Bruce Holly
 
I have been saying it for years, this will not stop until you and I and everyone else does not own a boat. Many of the groups that are involved in wanting the listing state that the "only acceptable whale watching is land based".

Its about behavior modification, our behavior not the whales. if your really want to get to the bottom of what the watermelons want please read "Rainbow six" by Tom Clancey. I think he really gets to the heart of their desires.

And being I can not say anything good about the wack jobs that are behind this I will not post anymore on the subject. And they say the partriot act is a attack on your rights. Look at how the ESC is being mis-used some time. If anyone wants to talk about it with me, email. and thats talk not yell or name call. thank you and good night.
 
I've read all the Tom Clancy's books and Tom I agree it was a really good read. In my opinion the best of all his books and a very good look into the mindset behind extreme environmentalism and it's manipulation of many. Like many of his books its scenario is one I could see relating to a possible future reality.

Know my little review is off topic, but couldn't resist being I enjoyed that book so much.

Let's do away with all environmental laws. Maybe we can get this place looking like East Germany with the Hudson river flowing through it. Better yet let's make it look like China with the Yellow River or India with the Ganges. They don't have any environmental laws and wouldn't those places be lovely spots to cruise or fish. Yes I know the Hudson is not in Germany.

Watch out for those special interest groups. Also look out for Actors wanting to run for Governor. I hope that you are aware of the Protected areas off the California Coast. It would seem that the finer things in life are what slowly get taken away. Boating, Fishing, !!!!!!!!!! :cry

Review the above posts, and see why George W. got two cracks at it...we've got folks who think nothing of calling people like myself "wack jobs" and accusing us of being "red on the inside" :roll: for being environmentally conscious and outspoken, and are apparently perfectly fine with having their rights abridged by "right thinking Americans" in the name of security (see "Patriot Act" and other bright ideas). :amgry I love Puget Sound, but to be frank, I've heard some of the same stupid comments about why it will be fine, just fine far into the future that we have heard until recently about why the Chesapeake Bay wasn't really in as much trouble as it currently is, without question. You like your crabs, oysters, and fish as much as we ever did--but you're apparently not paying attention to what happened to us here sooner, because we are shallower. :unlove
 
Sorry, on review I seeI forgot I'm apparently "envirofascist" as well. :shock: (Historically, that would suggest a big problem with my apparent "red" tendencies, but let's not let actual history get in the way of a good labeling riff.) God, I can't wait for spring.
 
a couple of years back the one young whale that disappeared from a pod the last sighting by a Seattle biologist the thing looked like it was starving ... the salmon farms are destroying the wild fish !!! .. a news release a few weeks back has the B.C. government going out and catching the fingerling south of the fish farms and than releasing them north of the farms to by-pass the sea lice at the farms which have a 95 percent kill rate (one researchers estimate) .. no wild salmon in the end no whales .. in a lot of cases the whales approach the boats i think their a bit social or snoopy if you not speeding between them and harassing them everyone should butt out ...
