Port Harvey Marine Resort "Setback"

We plan a drop in this summer hope they're coming along ok, over at Pierre's, they just put some big logs under their float house as it was settling, no barge there though, just logs
He did a FB post on how they got a log under there, looked pretty hard to do
Planning an extended Broughton trip in July and August
Hope to see some Brats up there

Just spent some time peeking at the Port Harvey Face Book pages. They are getting it going and have already had north bound boats stopping buy for happy hour and helping time.

If you are in the Broughtons, or heading through in Johnston Strait it's a great place to stop, just off the strait and in good protection. They are open to provide dock space, and pizza and good company. If you get a chance, stop by and warn them, SleepyC is on the way and looking for Fish and chips again.

George,

Sounds like your timing is perfect. Hope to see you around the B Islands on your schedule.

BTW, did you get the C-BRATS Group Call MMSI number into your VHF?

If you are looking for it now I'll save you the trip. Here it is:

036697831

have a fun summer.

Looking forward to seeing some other C-Dorys in the area. I hear there will be several around Canada Day and Independence day.

Port Harvey Marine Resort monitors VHF 66. They are open and recovering from the "setback" on last November. The Barge is raised, and "forever" flotation has been added.

That's good news about Port Harvey Marina.

Minor correction...The VHF channel is 66a, or 66 Alpha, as in the USA mode.

All Canadian marinas use 66a, they are not allowed to answer on VHF 16.

Just spent some time looking at pix from this summer and wondering How many C-Brats were able to make it in to Port Harvey for any time at all.

Due to the change in their facility appliances, the menu changed some, and the service was limited to only those who stayed at the dock for the night, as opposed to being able to anchor out and call in an order for F&C or pizza and then pick it up at supper time.

Did you make it to Port Harvey for any time in the 2016 summer cruising season?

And for those who don't know. My interest is Port Harvey has only to do with sharing the name, not the ownership, or any financial interest.

AND YES, I did make it there for Canada Day and the fireworks show was great.

Just checked out some photos from Port Harvey Marine Resort. The barge building has a roof, all closed in for the winter. There is snow on the ground, on the docks and there were 3 big sailboats at their dock -- winter cruisers taking a break from the 40 knot winds on Johnstone Strait.

Hoping to see George and Gail at the Seattle Boat Show.

Wonder if there are any C-BRATS who might be up in the area around the first of July?

Harvey,

Life willing, we plan on being in the Broughtons this summer. Hope to run into you again with more time to visit.

Hi Larry, Sure hope to see you up there too. Your call was a nice surprise. Guess the AIS is good for more than collision avoidance.

I'm hoping to be at PH for Canada Day.

Just home from the Seattle Boat Show 2017 and had a nice visit with George and Gail from Port Harvey Marine Resort. Great to get to see them there, and hear the good news -- the barge is rehabed, the menu is set and it looks to be a good year at their dock and restaurant.

Larry, great to see you and Sam there with plans to be back.

This morning I received a call from a friend who also frequents Port Harvey Marine Resort with news that George Caimbridge, husband of Gail and co-owner with her of the Port Harvey Marine Resort, passed away in his sleep last night. Totally unexpected, and in seeming good health.

Here is a link to their Facebook page:

https://m.facebook.com/portharveymarine/

George was a friend to all, and a gentle, happy man. In spite of the goings on in the bay, he remained calm and focused, positive and determined. I never heard him say a word in anger, and his biggest joy was to have his family around him.

There was a recent FB post about looking for help from Aug 20 to Sept 30 at the resort so that they could be in Alberta with family for their daughters wedding. It is too early to know what will be going on at PHMR now, but will update as often as I know.

Gene and I were so fortunate to have met George and Gail on our cruise north to Alaska after Friday Harbor this year. It was a rainy day in May. We were one of two boats in PH. George was so busy but took time to make and serve our wonderful pizza at the Red Shoe. The following morning we were greeted with warm sweet cinnamon buns. All this while readying PH for the Summer. We are sad.

Looking around on the web last night, I found some photos of the famouc cinni buns and bread getting ready for the morning crowd, and of the fish and chips. They looked great. My first time into Port Harvey, I had heard there was a deadline for the supper order, so I called in on the VHF requesting dock space and asked if it was too late to order the fish and chips. George was on the radio and his reply was as long as we know before you get here, we are making them up now. And it was fabulous F&C. He will be missed.

Jack and Gene, thanks for your posting.

Harvey,

To the best of my knowledge, services will be in Alberta.

Larry

Hi Larry,

Thank you. My friend on Facebook said there was a notice that services would be announce when they had them planned, and yes, probably in Alberta, but at least it would be nice to know.

Thanks,

Harvey
