Possible future C-Brat

Hi. I've been lurking on this forum for a while. I really like the idea of the C-Dory 22 and have been thinking of purchasing one since I first read "River Horse" by William Least Heat Moon. The C-Dory seems like a great boat to have and looks like a lot of fun. I love to explore and think it might be a good fit for our family. We have two boys but they are only 4 and 6 so I think the boat should be large enough. Right now we have a pontoon boat, a Catalina 22, and a Donzi Classic 16. Our C-22 is great to go out on and spend a night or two but it would be great to have a boat with an interior that we could stand up in, be little bit quicker in getting were we are headed and be much easier to trailer. We use our pontoon boat for cruising around the lake and fishing and I think the Dory will be good for that too. I'm a teacher and have all summer off and would love to be able to take the C-Dory on summer long cruises in different areas of the country. I've decided three boats is way to many to keep up maintenance with, and would like to sell all three and get a boat that will still suit our purpose. My problem is we are in Houston and I don't know of any dealers here where we could see the boat, and don't want to start tracking down one to buy until we have been on one. Most importantly, I have to get the wife's approval and need to show her the boat. Is there anyone on here that has a C-Dory 22 that wouldn't mind us coming over to see one in person? I would love to talk to an owner and go over the boat with them in person to see if it's the right boat for us.

Thanks, George

Hi George,

Welcome to the C-Brats site. If you click on "The Brat Map" at the top of the page, you'll see 7 Red balloons around Houston indicating 7 CD-22s. If you then click on the balloon, you'll see the user name and town. For example "Outrigger" , I clicked on the user name and it took me to his profile. His boat name is Bella Juliette and he's in Lake Conroe. You can send him a Private Message or e-mail. from the profile page.

Hope this helps and good luck on your quest. Maybe we'll see you cruising in the great Pacific Northwest sometime soon!

Thanks for the reply and welcome. I saw the map but didn't know if it would be rude to start PMing people from there. I'll give it a try. Lake Conroe is only thirty minutes from our house so that would be a great boat to see.

I would love to cruise the Pacific Northwest sometime. It looks beautiful from the pics and videos I have seen. Very different from our scenery here. It would be great to someday cruise up the inside passage.

George:

I am in Clear Lake on the other side of town. I don't know how much boating you have done in Galveston Bay and beyond.

I used to have a C-Dory Tomcat for a number of years and have explored all of Galveston Bay, Double Bayou, Cedar Bayou, Redfish Island, Galveston Island, Pelican Island, Offats Bayou, etc. along with multiple trips up and down the Gulf Coast. A CD 22 is perfect for this area. Feel free to contact me on the site or by sending me a private e-mail if you have any questions about cruising Galveston Bay and the Texas and Louisiana coast.

Ssobol I saw that boat listed on craigslist. It looks good and is in Texas I just have to get the funds approved by the "boss" aka wife. That one is a little more than we intended to spend.

Alok I have boated on the bay some, most of it on sailboats. We have been to Redfish island and around the northern part of the bay and Clearlake quite a bit. We have sailed down to Galveston and stayed at the Galveston Yacht Basin and also Offats Bayou to take the kids to Moody Gardens. I have never been to double bayou yet but that is next on our list. We love to sail and where at first looking to get a larger sailboat but If we buy a Catalina 34 we can't throw it on a trailer a take it to Florida for summer break like a C-Dory. We plan on cruising around the Texas coast and lakes most of the year and pick a different part of the country each summer. I'm sure I'll be messaging you with questions about all the good areas to go around the bay when we find a boat. Thanks for the offer.

I wanted to let you guys know that C-Brat "Outrigger" very graciously offered to let us go see his CD-22. I'm looking forward to finally getting to check one out.

It's right again. It is more than just a boat. It is a whole family.

Enjoy and good luck. See you in the PNW sometime.

I wanted to update you guys and let you know I bought a C-Dory. I made the long trek this previous weekend from Houston to Cincinnati and bought the 1998 C-Dory 22 Cruiser that was listed on C-Brats last week. The previous owners were very nice and took good care of the boat. It is in great shape and I've got it parked in the driveway annoying the neighbors while I go over everything, polish it up and get ready to take it out this weekend. If everything goes well we are taking it over to the Apalachicola area to cruise for a week over spring break. Thanks again for everyone's help and I'll be on this site constantly trying to gain info from everyone.

Congratulations :beer and welcome (again, but this time with your very own 22!)

I often find myself traveling to get just the right [whatever] for me, and I find that any pain of the trip disappears pretty quickly once it's past.

Feel free to tell us all about her - you know you'll have a rapt audience here :D

Great to have a new Member of C-Brats, We have a 22 and Love it. Check out some of my Pics. We are in Fl. with out Boat now and enjoying it very much Jim

Thanks for the congratulations everybody. We are glad to be a part of the C-Brat family now.

Marc, we would love to stop by while we are over there. Also, I wanted to ask you where would be a good place to launch in Apalachicola, and would it be a safe enough place to leave the truck for several days?
