I would like to acquire any information available ( books, previous posts, internet sources, personal preferences etc.) on prawn trapping. Thanks, Chica

Chica,

I assume that you're planning on catching some prawns in the PNW salt. This thread discusses the equipment and methods that are typically used in great detail. Depending on where you are shrimping, the season can be very short. For example in the mid and south Puget sound we might only be allowed 3-4 days of shrimping anymore where as it might run for a couple months in the San Juans. Where were you planning on going and when?[/url]

Sorry, should have realized the regs would not be the same in all areas. I will be fishing and prawn trapping in the northwest section of Vancouver Island during the summer months. Chica

Thanks for the thread, Roger. I've been 'in communicado" for awhile, and now realize I could have pulled all this up on the "search engine ". Thanks, Chica

I love to prawn on the canadian side of the border. the season is almost year round in many areas and the limits are much larger, 100 to 280 depending on the area. there are seveal boards for fishing the victoria area that talk about prawning alot. I don't have the link now, on the wrong computer. i found a good spot near sydney thats out of the main current and has a nice flat bottom at the right depth, 245ft. I will try to find the number for that spot later to day.

I think you will find it best if you are going to prawn in BC waters if you wait and buy your equipment in BC, The mesh size is smaller in BC and you can get a Reg. book up their to give you all the legal guide lines, and the where and how's.
Have fun....Big Dave.
