Prince William Sound 2022

We checked off one of our bucket list adventures this spring with a month and a half on Prince William Sound. The drive from Idaho to Valdez pulling the boat was a leisurely and enjoyable drive with lots of bears, moose, caribou, elk, bison, etc. Valdez is a very welcoming community. Even though we spent most of our time at anchor, it was worth getting a slip at Valdez Harbor for $240/mo that included parking and launch fees. Most of the anchorages we had to ourselves. We logged about 900 mi. on Lochsa exploring the numerous bays and glaciers with some great hiking. We only explored the north side of the Sound so have reason to return.

I very much enjoyed the Inside Passage. Perhaps I should consider Prince William Sound for next time. Sounds like a good deal for parking and launching at Valdez and operating out of there.

You would enjoy it Colby. Although we have only done SE AK from Prince Rupert to Prince of Wales, I think the logistics once you get to Valdez are probably much easier. Valdez is a full service community with everything within walking distance to the harbor. We have driven the ALCAN many times as previous AK residents, however this was the most enjoyable with no schedule.

I’ll apologize ahead of time to those AK residents for advertising the gem you have available to you in PWS. Ken

PWS is generally just a waste of time in my opinion. I'd plan my trips somewhere else...like....anywhere.....lol.....Honestly, I'm a bit surprised most of it isn't a National Park as there are not a many places anywhere like it on this planet.

I'll second TR Bauer, Definitely not worth the drive, only reason I go it's because it is close by.
Yeah, I'm also kidding, I have been going there for over 15 years and still wish I could make it out more often, still have many place I haven't been and wish to visit soon.
