Princess Louisa Inlet Cruise after Friday Harbor Gathering

Please count Kerry and I in on the Princess Lousia cruise. We have boated the area some time ago when we owned the Boston Whaler Conquest. We took the ferry across to the Sunshine Coast and launched out of Earls cove, it was a great trip.

Hi Rick. Glad to see that you and Kerry are signed up for the Friday Harbor gathering and that you have interest in the PLI trip afterward. I have a feeling that most folks will break into small groups for travel to PLI. Telephone reporting sites are Bedwell Harbour and Nanaimo. Colleen and I have NEXUS Marine and there is a possibility that we will check in at Ganges, get provisions and continue north. Ganges is not a telephone reporting site. The links below show reporting stations for telephone reporting sites and for those enrolled as NEXUS Marine members. Gary

Gary, just curious what's involved in enrolling in Nexus, and why did you chose to do so? (I could google what's involved, but just being lazy. lol) Colby

Ok, never mind on what's involved. I ended up looking it up. I'm too cheap to pay the enrollment fee. The phone call at Bedwell has worked out well, and then I use the CBP roam for returning.

We chose Nexus because you do not need to tie up to the dock and use the phone on the wall to check in. There are also many more locations where check in is allowed. You give your estimated time of arrival, purpose of the trip, and length of stay. You need to arrive at the reporting station before your declared ETA and wait until that time has lapsed. If no officer is present at the reporting station at that time, you are free to go.

It also gives you trusted traveler status when flying. Listed below are some of the benefits from the web that also apply when you fly.

Benefits also apply to TSA PreCheck
"Expedited security screening
Shorter lines
Faster processing times
Keep shoes, belts, and light jackets on
Don't need to remove laptops or compliant liquids from carry-on bags
Benefits of NEXUS
Expedited processing between the U.S. and Canada
Can use the Nexus card in place of a passport when traveling between the U.S. and Canada
Includes Global Entry benefits at no additional cost"

We have started our second 5 year term with the Nexus Marine program and like it. Gary

I'm working to clear my schedule and attend the Friday Harbor gathering and join in on the PLI cruise. I appreciate all the information from the seasoned boaters into Canada as this will be my first trip with my C-Dory. A special thanks for the info in traveling with a dog as I plan on traveling with my first mate, Tango.

I would also like to join in on your trip to PLI after the get together at Friday Harbor.
I will be traveling with a friend and my little Dog "IGGY".

We plan to head for Alaska at a slow cruise for 2 - 3 months after PLI.

Dennis and David, so glad that you plan to join us in travel to Princess Louisa Inlet. Thanks for letting us know.

If I have missed anyone interested in this trip, please forgive me and speak up now. So far we have 9 boats with interest or 'count me in' for going to PLI/Chatterbox Falls after the FH gathering:

Dave & Dori on Sea Witch - interested
Jay on Hunkydory (if Jolee cannot attend) - interested
Rick & Kerry on Tomcat - planning on it
Karl & Tango on Nowhere Fast - planning on it
Dennis & David on My Iggy - planning on it
Jeff & Dianne on Classea Lady - planning on it
Steve & Joanie on Verve' - planning on it
Patrick & Kim on Kim Christine - planning on it

That's 8 lol. Maybe I was number 9 and fell off the list... or you are 9, and I'm 10....

Colby (and possibly Rosanne) on C-Traveler

Ha Ha. Thanks Colby. I can always count on you to keep me straight! I am not too good at counting and if the numbers get too high, I will have to take off my shoes. I forgot you and Colleen and myself. Hopefully, Rosanne can make the trip. OK, it is 10. :)

Only if JoLee should regress & not be up for the Skagway, Alaska trip, would I make, the Friday Harbor Gathering ect this year.

Jay

Well, JoLee hasn’t regressed & she is actually doing much better, than we even hoped for, but our plans are changing with the Friday Harbor Gathering & the later cruise to Princess Louise Inlet cruise, now very likely for both of us to attend. Following PLI, we may continue on to Prince Rupert, but if that happens it will likely be a somewhat fast cruise to Prince Rupert & then back to Port Townsend, which is where, we originally plan to launch. This faster then perhaps desired trip is due to us needing to be back to Cokeville, Wy by early June, where we will meet my son Clayton & family to travel together, they in their jeep & RV trailer & us with truck camper & HunkyDory on a road trip to Skagway, Alaska. There we hope to do some short cruises & along the long road up & back, cruise & camp by some lakes in the Yukon & along the way, including our favorite lake, “Atlin”.

Warm spring Bay on Baranof Island with launching again out of Skagway, is now high on the hopeful list for next year.

Good news Jay! I revised the list. It is not in any particular order. Colleen is better than I am at that.

Dave & Dori on Sea Witch - interested
Jay on Hunkydory - planning on it
Rick & Kerry on Tomcat - planning on it
Karl & Tango on Nowhere Fast - planning on it
Dennis & David on My Iggy - planning on it
Jeff & Dianne on Classea Lady - planning on it
Steve & Joanie on Verve' - planning on it
Patrick & Kim on Kim Christine - planning on it
Colby (possibly Rosanne) on C-Traveler - planning on it
Gary & Colleen on DayBreak - planning on it

I thought several years ago the administrators said they were not going to have political posts . Let’s keep it about c-dorys and adventures. Thanks

You recall correctly! Thanks! I just delete them anymore regardless of which side they are on. The little snippets inside of otherwise helpful posts are troublesome for me because I do not like editing someone's words so from now on the whole post goes away.

There are a few C-Dory groups on Facebook and that site seems to be popular for political discussions.

The trash has been taken out, warnings sent.

Behave yourselves, friends. Hatred and disrespect for others has no place here at the C-Brats. If you disagree, find yourself another playground.

We have a nice size group planning to go to Princess Louisa Inlet with room for more. Final plans will be made at the Friday Harbor gathering prior to the potluck on Saturday. At that time, I see us breaking into smaller planning groups for those who have a different idea on travel speed, locations for provisions and fuel, Canada check-in etc. On Saturday's meeting, contact information can and should be shared with everyone planning to go to PLI. This will enable us to have a better idea of everyone's approximate location of travel as long as there is cell phone reception. To exchange MMSI numbers would also be helpful.

Colleen and I are not the leaders on this trip but we enjoy helping to facilitate a safe travel there. After the Saturday potluck, Colleen and I will consider ourselves to be 'on vacation' from the FH gathering and look forward to heading out early the following morning for PLI. With Nexus Marine check-in arrangements made on Sunday, we will tie up to the Bedwell Harbor dock only to place our courtesy flag on the bow and then continue north. Bedwell Harbor opens at 8 am and we have seen a line of boats and captains checking in at that time.

Do you plan to check in at Bedwell Harbour or Nanaimo, provision and fuel at Ganges, Nanaimo or even Pender Harbor? Will you cross the Strait on Sunday or Monday, taking into consideration the weather and ocean conditions? https://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page. ... tion=46146 Make your own personal plans now as if you are a leader of a small group. With a group this size, there will be different ideas and plans but with a common purpose.

If interested in joining the group, send Colleen and I a PM and we will mark you down on the list to be handed out at the Friday Harbor gathering. We look forward to our final planning meeting and seeing everyone on the dock at Chatterbox Falls. Gary and Colleen

Well it looks like Susan and I will be tagging along on the PL cruise. We have not been there since 06?? And that was in the 22. Anyone interested in hiking from egmont to the standing wave at Skookumchuck narrows. Its a very cool sight to see.
