Greetings everyone and HNY :xtongue really :)

Just a quick note: From past experiences with private messages on this site; I now ask that If I don't know you, that you use the message board for any inquiries about the boat from now on... yeah you know who you are :monty

Er ? Not sure what that was all about... but from the tone of that post someone is messing with RedFox.... and that is not what this is all about folks...remember we are supposed to be a group of friends that enjoy the same mode of transportation...

I for one enjoy the projects and creativity of RedFox ... can't we all get along...save the snide crap for some other website.

I agree, Joel. Redfox always has good info.

Yep. Often entertaining, too. Good to see you, old friend!

It looks like you settled on a motor choice. Does that Yami have a belt or chain cam drive? I think a chain is great on a horizontal engine, but cannot for the life of me figure out why they would put one on a vertical cam where the chain is running on the side of the sprockets. I mean, I know they work because there are lots of them that have been in service for a long time, but it just doesn't make sense to me.

Still, you can't go wrong with any of the new OB motors.

Good to see you. Go ahead and settle in here for the winter, we will excuse you if you disappear again in the spring. :xlol

I'd sure like to hear more about the F70.

Is it enough motor for a heavily loaded boat like Adeline or should I keep waiting for Yamaha to offer a new "lightweight" F90 ?

RF has never let winter get in the way of boating. Where's the old picture of his boat "beached" on pancake ice in Prince William Sound?

Thanks guys, your a good bunch. Sowy for the late reply... I just grew more sensitive to individuals that can't be open or reciprocate in private messages and am through with that. I'd much rather contribute openly when it comes to our babies :)

Back at you Mike :) and thanks for the Q...

The new 70 Yami: Pure inspiration! I continue to grow more satisfied with it, new ways of fishing and functioning out there are still emerging from this major down-size. :idea :rainbow

To catch up a little on my C-Dorying :) the new 70 Y: I chose it this time to try out a "SOHC belt-drive" engine, over what I had "DOHC shim-adjustment-valves". Even though the old F-115 Yami' never needed one single adjustment in about 2000 hours, this time around, being we live on an island now, the need to keep it simple as possible is needed. (The dealers here don't even have shim kits!) They say the engines never need shims, but towards the end of about 1800 hours, my valves were right at their maximum tolerance and I could feel a power-loss... the new SOHC 70 Yami' really appealed to me for simple valve maintenance.

But also with gas prices being what they are, the old motor swap had some trade-in-value and was repaired--everyone won on that deal :D Later when I visited the shop, the F-115 was still tight inside, after all that abuse and being over-propped a lot up north! It probably cracked a ring for only one reason I can see - the early model f-115's had too much condensation problem in winter, and that lead to a massive buil-up of crud around the rings. When I heavily-dosed the engine with Yamaha Ring Free and hit that bar, she blew :( To my amazement, the mighty F-115 took me another 500 miles (I assumed it was a stuck-ring) If the engine was a two-stroke and had two-stroke-ports, I would not have made it far. For that reason mostly, I stuck with four-strokes.

hopefully there will be Yamaha's on my next boat if it is outboard powered. I have been very happy with my Honda BF-150 also but the Yamaha in my very humble opinion is a better motor

oh the good old days up north :unlove i miss that! the ice was soft in that pic, I've tried to break ice half as thick almost like concreet before. Eventually the boat just climbs-on-top :teeth

Adeline. If your not wanting to run rivers and lighten-up your C-Dory for that kind of versatility, yes wait for a new 90! You probably won't have to change props, and get just as good milage in faster speeds... I miss the heavy rigging and how it makes the boat ride deeper in the water giving a smoother ride. But not sure I'd trade the new river prowess for being heavier, especially with todays fuel prices.
