Prop Question

This may be addressed somewhere but my searches did not find it. What props do those of you with twin Honda 40's on a 22 cruiser find best on your boat? Thanks for your time. A newbie

First a CD-22 with twin Honda 40's on the light side of heavily loaded. I used a Solas 4 blade 12" pitch for about 5 years and consistantly got 4.5 mpg (statute miles) cruising at about 16 mph. The problem was when normally loaded with 3 people wot was 5400 rpm at about 25mph and when fully loaded with 7 people or 4 people and full fuel and water and food for 5 days wot was about 4700 and I'd guess speed was about 20 mph. That is working the engine too hard so I went to a Solas 4 blade 11" pitch and the corresponding conditions were wot 5900 (speed still about 25 mph I think) and wot 5200 (speed still about 20 mph I think). I was very happy with this as it meets Honda's recommendation of wot being between 5000 and 6000 rpm. Since max Hp is at 5500 you have it available with the 11" prop. The down side is that with the 12" I got 4.5 mpg and with the 11" I get 4.0 mpg; so if I take a long trip lightly loaded I'll switch back to the 12" props and get 10% better mileage. Lots of other threads if you search.

My Honda 40hp twins have 11 1/4 x 13 stamped on the three-bladed aluminum props. I only recently obtained the boat...

I've tested it to 28mph at 5800-5900rpm with about 800lbs (quick estimate) loaded aboard. It was very smooth, though loud and obviously I didn't want to push it further. The ocean was glass that day.

5,000rpm is a sweet spot for my boat compared to >5500, though I'm usually running at 4500rpm or less of course.

I recently ordered replacements for a spare and they incorrectly sent me a 11.1 x 13 prop which is, suprisingly, very different in shape. I'm curious about it, it's a Honda prop, while the ones I have on now don't appear to be the Honda name brand.

I'd like to move to stainless eventually though I am in no hurry.

Our '05 22 Cruiser with twin Honda 40s came with 3 blade 11-1/4x13 props and they seem to be a good all around size for sea level use

Honda sells two different three-blade 11-1/8x13 props but I can't figure out the difference between them.

58130-ZW4-H31 SUP.PROPELLER THREE-BLADE (Honda code 75101260 9) (11-1/8x13)

58130-ZW4-H31ZA PRI.PROPELLER THREE-BLADE (Honda code
8751752) (11-1/8x13) *NH283* (STIN GRAY

Any one have a clue?

One may have more rake and/or cup than the other, since the diameter and pitch are the same.

The one with less cup and less rake may be more for heaver loaded power applications, while the other, with more cup and more rake for lighter loads, enables a greater speed range and more efficiency for runabout type boats.

Just Guessing!
