r-25 wiring

Does anyone have any wiring diagrams for an r-25. I'm having thruster problems. Wiring for the reversing circuit on the thrusters would be a big help. Wiring and manuals for the whole boat would be great.
Having to repair something on a year old boat every time I go out is bad enough but without manuals? Come on Ranger company!
The folks at Wefings are trying to help me get information but they must be having problems as well.

capnruss-

I have been told by several local boat mechanics that wiring diagrams on boats almost never exist, just like in the RV industry.

Boats, like RVs, are built with the materials available at the time. Also, design changes are made so frequently, and custom orders so common, that publishing a wiring diagram is nearly impossible, and would be pretty much inaccurate to one's specific boat, anyway.

My Sea Ray does have 1) a list of wires and their color codes and their gauges that is listed by boat system , 2) a list of circuit breakers and amperages, and 3) a bulb chart that are all very nicely done, but no diagram is available.

How are you at tracing out circuits with a digital volt / ohm / ammeter?

Sea wolf is 100% correct. We have wiring schematics but they change very frequently. I have an owners manual completed but is going to vary from your boat being this is the most updated version. I have sent Charlie at wefings a hand drawn schematic of the thruster wiring. If you would provide me with an address, Hull # I will be happy to send you an owners manual.

Andrew, my hull no. is FMLT2506J607. Thank you

Forgive me but just because no one else does it, it doesn't make it right. Many boats are so simple, all you have are light circuits. That's not the case with an R25. Do it right, don't let important things not get done because others don't. Be the best. I came from an engineering background and the job isn't done till the paperwork is done and accurate. Believe me it would help your people as much as those of us that buy the boats. Once you get a good wiring diagram, changing it slightly from boat to boat isn't a big deal. If you have trace things that go wrong in production, there's nothing like having a print with wire colors and labeled parts and fuses. Yeh it's a pain in the butt to do but it's worth it! And the complaints won't stop until it gets done. I'm sure I'm not the first to ask about this.

Capnruss. Welcome to the world of boating. They are not like cars, and things do break down on a regular basis, no matter who builds the boats. I understand your frustration--but with builders who build relitatively small number of boats by hand, there will be continual improvements.

What impresses me in your situation is that you got responses to your problems within hours both from the dealer and factory rep! Try that with any other builder!

The wiring for the thruster might be best obtained from the thruster manufactuuer.
Most boats (and RV's, as noted above) come with manuals for the various sub assumblies which are common to most boats, rather than a manual for the entire boat. For example a Nordhavn 47 will come with about 7 linlear feet of shelf space of these sub manuals.

What many of us do is to trace out the circuits (I did obtain "wiring diagrams" for both my CD 25 and Tom Cat 255, but they are not "correct" for my specific boats--again because of changes which are always occuring. If you don't have a labeler, then buy one (I use a Brother 1280) and label each wire. I also add additional wiring, as I add more electronics. You ask that the factory add lablels--and that is a reasonable request--but are you willing to pay the additional costs which are necessary? Remember that the boating business is competative business and each extra thousand dollars to the cost of a boat, it may impact sales.

We wish you luck in resloving the problems and be prepared to handle other problems which occur as you continue to boat.

How hard would it be to label wires on both ends,......hookup, label and test. Easy for the factory but hard for us. captd
