Raymarine C-80

I have a Raymarine C-80 package with GPS and radar. Am I able to add another display to the rear of the boat using some sort of splitter cable or will I have to go out and buy another fishfinder? If I can, is it possible to use a A60, A65, or C70 display? I want to do this for just using the fishfinder while trolling for Kokanee. Thanks for the help.

Larry,

I have a C80 on Constant Craving. I can't answer your question about a repeater, but I have an opinion about a redundant depth sounder. I also have a Lowrance unit that will soon be replaced with something better, but I am of the opinion that it never hurts to have a backup that is totally independent of the other system.

I may be wrong, (I was once before, but a divorce fixed that) but I don't think you can do that with the C Series. The E series allows it. I would think either way it would be less expensive and give you redundancy to add the fish finder of choice.

Nope, can't do it directly. You can, however, use the sonar on another display. The problem is switching it between displays. Somewhere lost in my fading synapses is a memory of a switch being available to do just that. Check with RayMarine.

Dave, I too have made a couple of mistakes. Took three wifetimes before I got it right. :cry

I don't know of any splitter cable but I don't think it is possible. The problem is that with the E-80 the transducer output is placed on the SeaTalk bus, where it can be picked up by any display on the boat's network. With the C-80, the fishfinder output goes directly to a display.

If you want to use the other fishfinders you mention you will have to use another transducer and then you run into problems with the two transducers interfering with each other. This is true regardless if the aft fishfinder is Raymarine or from Lowrance or someone else.

I looked into this in great detail when trying to decide how to provide information to my aft helm. No easy or cheap answers out there that I am aware of. Sorry!

I'm a little confused as to the necessity of another screen? I have a c-80 and use it for trolling all the time. You might try setting the fish alarm and set the appropriate depth range. That way you don't have to stare at a screen, you only need to glance at it when it beeps. Just a thought.

The second display is out back for kokanee fishing mainly. I have the tr1 auto-pilot so I am not at the helm much. It is also fun for the kids to watch the fish move vertically to the lures. It keeps them watching their rods and downriggers. Not a nessicity but a creature comfort.
