Regarding a Cover for a Venture 23

One of the purchases we've been putting off is having a full cover made for our 23' Venture. I've read many threads on this topic and today I spoke to Bob at Angola Canvas. He said he has never made a cover for a C-Dory 23' Venture. He has certainly made many covers for the 22 Cruiser, but not for the 23.

I plan to take several measurements he requested, and he asked if I could also try to get a copy of a line drawing of both the 23 Venture and 22 Cruiser so he could compare them. He is concerned that the pattern he has for the 22 Cruiser might well have different seam locations due to changes in the cabin dimensions and, therefore, be relatively unusable. I know the Venture cabin has slightly different dimensions, but I am not sure to what degree. While he could just add fabric to each side and at the ends, this might not provide the best fit; thus, the need for measurements to assure a quality product. I certainly can't argue with that...

Does anyone have a line drawing of a 23 Venture, preferably one with dimensions included? How about for a 22 Cruiser? I looked at the C-Dory website but they don't have anything to that degree.

Additionally, just for curiosity, have any of you 23 Venture owners ever tried a fitting a standard 22 Cruiser cover just to see if/how it might fit?

Thanks for any thoughts and/or suggestions...

Rob

I don't have any drawings, but the 23 Venture is wider by almost half a foot and longer as well as having a completely different cabin top. I don't think any dimensions are going to match up in any meaningful way.

We had a full winter cover for our Venture by a company in Burlington New Jersey called Fisher Canvas. Pictures on the first page of Will-C's album. We have a radar arch with for rocket launchers (rod holders)and Garmin HD radar. But you might give them a call and see if they would share some of the measurements with you canvas guy. I think you can read the name off the pictures in our album. If not send me a PM and I will look up their phone number for you.

Here is the info on the folks who made our winter boat cover.
Fisher Canvas Products Inc.

Burlington, New Jersey 08016 phone 1 800 892 6688.

They made our cover in 2009 and it is still holding up very well on our section of the east coast they well respected for quality work and cover designs. Ours has had it's share of snow and no rips or tears yet.

Rob,

A suggestion for Angola Canvas would be for you to take several pictures of your boat with a 3' "yardstick" shown in the picture (for reference purposes) . If the yardstick has clearly visible inch/foot markings it's fairly simple to get pretty good measurements from the pic's.

PM your email address and I can send you some detailed pictures of our cover for Dessert 1st. The cover was made in AUG09 by JP Canvas & Awning, 9530 W. Cedar St, Crystal River, FL 34428 (TEL: 352-795-1026). We are Very happy with it.

We've decided to sign-up for the upcoming St. John's River CBGT. It looks like we'll have four CC23's attending (JennyKatz, Freedom, WillC, Dessert 1st) so I'm sure we'll have a change to discuss covers, et al.

See you there!

Best,
Casey&Mary

Ours with a zippered entry door was about 1250. dollars back in 2009. It's stood up pretty well as we get a decent amount of snow. It's supported by three 10' 2 x 4's so most of the snow slides off. The weight of the snow could cause it to rip maybe. But it's pretty tough and keeps the boat pristine. It has vents so the it can breathe. The cover must weigh about seventy pounds. I would buy one again.
