Remote control shift and throttle adjustments.

I am having a problem with the remote control (side mount) on a 2005 Suzuki DF 50. Everything seems to work fine going forward, but putting the motor in reverse, I have way too much throttle before the reverse gear is engaged. I bought the boat from a private party. They said the remote cables were new. I don't know who installed them. I bought a Seloc manual for the Suzuki (1996-2007 all 4 Strokes) There are no references to adjusting the shift and throttle cables. I don't know if I should start on the remote end or on the motor end. I can't find instructions online either. If I was closer to Wefings it would be a no-brainer. I don't have much confidence in the local Suzuki dealer, but may have to resort to going there after all. Anyone know how to do the adjustment, or where I can find instructions.

I am not familiar with that specific Suzuki model, but generally, the adjustment for the throttle/part of the shift/throttle linkage is at the engine. I would start there. I can say that with my Suzuki's (140's and 150's), there is a fair amount of travel in the reverse, before the throttle does rev up. I suspect that this was intentional.

Thanks, Bob

I called around and shop time is $90.00/hr with 1 hr minimum. Didn't ask how long for an appointment, probably more than a week off. The weather has been great 70's and so I decided to tackle it myself. Long store short, it took me less than 1/2 hr to diagnose and fix the problem. The adjustment of the shift cable, on the remote control end, was off about 1/2". The neutral lockout detent was off and the throttle was too fast to let the reverse gear engage. I would of felt stupid if I had taken it to a shop and then realized how easy the fix was. It works perfectly now, and goes in and out of forward and reverse without any noticeable increase in motor RPM's.
