Removable A/C for TomCats

The two EU 1000 share the load equally. But if the 2000 will run the application it is much less expensive, uses less space and simpler. (The duplex wiring is fairly expensive, but some RV sites show the circuit for the adaptor).

Good to know about the Pep Boys running on an EU 2000. It would be interesting to measure the BTU out put in compariso to the RV units.

I may have to get one for the 25!

Warren... there are TWO different wiring kits to connect two gensets. The cheaper one, $30 at Gander Mountain, $50 at Honda dealers, is simply the wires fitted with really neat insulators so that no metal is exposed when not plugged in. You can use this cheaper, wire only, connector set if you are only going to use the gensets' existing receptacles at their listed max amps or less to draw from.

The $220 at Wise Sales, $275 at Honda, connector set has a plastic yoke which replaces the face frame on one of the generators and has a 30 amp receptacle, either RV or twist-lock. You can still draw amps from the existing 15/20 amp receptacles on the gensets , or you can draw up to 33+ amps from the 30 amp receptacle if you don't use the others.

The Honda guy would not let me open the packages of the connector kits, but the Gander Mountain guy did. Most of the info is from the paperwork included in the plastic bag of the $30 wire-only connector kit.

The draw of the units depends upon how you plug into them - I think. If you draw from both, both will go Eco or full depending upon the draw from it's own. If you're drawing heavily and only one plug-in is in one unit, they both share the load..... I think... So far, both of mine share the load, but I haven't loaded them unevenly yet - Bob may be correct that they always share the load evenly. They are computer controlled to the point that it does not even matter how you place the connector wires, the computer will figure out which polarity resulted and adapt to it.

Bob,

The Pep Boys' APT brand, 12,000 Btu A/C unit has a delayed start, rotary compressor which does not seem to load the Honda 2000 very heavily at all.

I still haven't found the DIY version of the "expensive" wiring diagram in the RV sites, what I did find out is that if you are running them in parallel, plug the two units together before starting either one. Start #1 and you can start #2 at any time and they will synchronize and share the load. Both should be in eco or non eco throttle(both the same setting). Do not start one, then plug in the connector cable.

There was an entire forum to DIY of the "Y" cable for 33 amp output--Maybe some one else has it book marked. (not in C Brat, but in RV forum)

I have two 2000 Watt Hondas.... I needed a 3000 Watt genset for other uses, so two 2000 Watt units would cover both needs. I may use both on the boat for times when I want to use alot of power.

Right now, I am amazed that the single Honda 2000 handles the A/C load so easily. The Honda 2000 has a light that lights up when you're drawing over the continuous rated amperage and it can run at that peak load for 30 minutes per the instructions.

At no time, when running the A/C on the single Honda, did the over amperage draw light come on. I hooked it up to the shorepower line using an adaptor the normal household, three-prong, 15 amp plug, and turned off all other 110 Volt circuits on the panel.

I can see an advantage to that Honda 30 amp converter frame thing in that it would more easily hold the plug in place. The heavy adapter and heavy shore power line tend to want to loosen up the plug-in connection.

Just to update info and progress on the Pep Boys 12,000 Btu portable A/C and the Honda i2000 generator:

1 - I had reported earlier that the Honda 2000 can run the 12,000 Btu A/C on "Eco Throttle" setting at about half speed, for 7 1/2 hourson the built in fuel tank, on a day in the mid 80's F. Last weekend, with temperatures in the mid 90's, a humidity level close to that, and starting with an extremely hot cabin (120 plus?), the Hond kicked off right away as an overload fault.

So, I found out that, on full throttle, the Honda 2000 will run the 12,000 Btu A/C for 4 1/2 hours on the built-in fuel tank.

2 - I found an diamond plate, aluminum underbody box at Tractor Supply into which the Honda 2000, even with the 30 amp yoke attached will fit as well as a couple of cans of gasoline. I placed some vents and flap style doors and just bolted it to the swim step this weekend. I need to find a way to rig the suction lines from the extended run fuel tank.
I've already had to make some modifications and time is short, so no pics at this time, but, if you're looking for something that fits, the 24" underbody box will easily hold that genset.
