Removing water from tank while afloat?

Greetings fellow Brats,
I recently got Pluto my CD22 back in the water for the season and before I did I filled the water tank. Now I realize I am just lugging all this heavy water around for no reason. I need to keep maybe 5 gallons or so on board for my typical day trip, not all 18 gallons and 108lbs.

When I tried the attaching hose trick to the water spout I could not get enough drop to get a syphon going. Short of a mechanical pump does any one have any ideas on how to get rid of 10 gallons or so while the boat is in the water?

I'm a C-22 novice but why wouldn't you just turn on the faucet and let her run down?

I decided not to fill my water tank for the same reason. Last year I went the entire season with one fill and STILL had to drain quite a bit of water at the end of the season. If we go away for a longer trip with shore power I will add water for showers but otherwise I agree there is no sense in carrying around that weight. Plus it minimizes list.

Because the 22's are not equipped with an electric pump but rather a foot operated pump. Nonetheless, I would just pump it out with the foot pump. It will only take 5-10 minutes of total time.

Our 22 had a "T" in the hose where it runs across the aft bulkhead. There was a plug in the "T" and removing this plug, allowed the water to drain out, into the cabin/cockpit floor. Then suction up with a diaphragm bilge pump.

We put in a very simple in line low flow electric pump for the water system. No pressure switch--just on or off.
 
Put a piece of hose over the faucet, run it out the window to the waterline and pump the foot pump to get it started...then relax and it will siphon out.

If you don't need 20 gallons of water, do what I did and replace the tank with a smaller one from tankdepot.com. I went with a six gallon one by Todd and it was easy to do and gave us a lot more storage in the seat box.
