Repower Offer for C-Dory Owners - Mercury Outboards

I'm not sure where it would be best to post this.

I want to offer special pricing for any C-Dory owner looking to repower to a Mercury outboard. We are full line Mercury dealer and keep a good inventory from 2.5hp through 150hp typically on hand. There is also good availability from the factory if we don't have the motor you need in stock.

This message is simply an announcement of a special pricing offer on the brand I carry.

If you are in the Great Lakes region and are considering a repower, get in touch and lets discuss the details. If you are interested to discuss pros/cons of Mercury vs. the others we can do that also. I'm pretty familiar with the other brands and fully respect them all.

If you are a committed follower of one of the Japanese brands that is fine. I won't try to convert you.

If you would like convincing....just let me know and it will become a sales pitch...

If you looking for a good deal on a Mercury let me know.

Thanks!

I’m not near the Great Lakes but I do have a few questions if you don’t mind answering. I have started to think about a re-power. I’ve been very happy with my 2006 Honda 150 on my CD-25 but she’s almost 20 years old. I generally cruise between 15-20 knots and don’t use the top end much but would like more get up and go on the low end. There is a local Mercury dealer near me, the Honda dealer is much farther away.

My questions: 1) Would a Mercury 150 SeaPro be a good match? 2) If so, can you give me a general price range for a re-power? 3) Do you think I would be better re-powering with a new Honda 150?

Thanks for your time.

Hi Charles. Thanks for the opportunity to discuss the details.

I'll try to answer the questions as unbiased as I can.

I have not experienced the current Honda 150 first hand...so I can't comment about the noise and smoothness of that engine with any real world knowledge.

I have experienced the Mercury 150 countless times and know the characteristics very well.

The Mercury 150 is a tried and true platform. The basic engine has been in production since 2012. The regular 4 Stroke, ProXS and SeaPro all use the same powerhead. This was a ground up design that focused on weight reduction, simplicity and reliability. This many years later and it has proven to meet or exceed all competitors on performance and reliability.

The Mercury 150 is not the smoothest, quietest engine out there. It is lightyears better than the old 2 strokes including the direct injected ones such as the Optimax. It also does have all of the performance and no extra weight compared to 2 strokes.

The Mercury is the largest displacement in the 150 class with a full 3.0 L. This does help the engine get substantial low end grunt.

The Mercury is the lightest weight 150 on the market.

All versions of the current Mercury 150 are rated for and compatible for use in salt water. There is a flush port mounted near the front of the engine to allow in water flushing.

The ProXS version raises the rev range and the rev limiter. It also has a different gear ratio to better take advantage of the increase rev ability.

The SeaPro actually has a lower rev range with the intent to increase durability and reduce the strain on the engine at higher RPMs. The SeaPro also has the adjusted gear ratio.

Your specific questions:

1. - For the use on a 25 C-Dory, I don't know if there is any real world advantage to the SeaPro vs. the regular 4 Stroke.

2. - MSRP on a regular 150XL is $16,040 Most dealers can sell for 8-10% below that. Of course you would also have the controls and rigging that are hard to estimate, but would likely be $1000-1200 and labor would the 4 to 6 hrs for a full repower, rerig. As I noted and the purpose of my post is to offer a good deal for C-Dory owners. I would need to quote that individually so we are sure of the details.

3. - I do think the 150 Mercury would give better performance than the Honda. They are both good engines, the Mercury may be slightly louder and less smooth, but overall would give noticeable more grunt on the low end and probably more on the top end also.

Attached is a screen shot of a quick comparison of the current 150 specs that I put together. Hopefully that will help.
