Just got back from a six day trip to RI. A friend of mine got me an invite on a 93 foot motor sailer going from RI to Maine and back. Had a great time with beautiful weather and lots of new experiences in an area I had never seen before. Met loads of good folks and was treated like an old friend by all.
Rhode Island was a hoot. I have ever seen so many high dollar yachts packed into such a small area. My favorite was just across the dock an 80 foot Donzi sport fisher powered by twin MTU 2000/16 diesels. The owner noticed me snapping some pics and drooling one morning and invited aboard for a tour. Even let me take pictures (see the last page of my album) WOW it was used to shuttle back and forth between RI and Florida and marlin fishing. Local fishing for stripers was done aboard his small boat a 45 foot Donzi sport fisher... Very nice guy loved to fish we swaped stories and shared some pictures of our adventures. He liked the shots of Shearwater and was impressed with the simplicity of C-Dorys and the looks.
Got treated to a bay cruise aboard an American Yachts 28' power boat. I knew of their sail boats and guess this was one of the first of a new line of power boats. Sweet boat semi-displacement powered by a 270hp Yanmar. Pretty posh setup for day cruising and entertaining. Rip out the seat on the back deck and it could double duty as a fishing boat was my thinking.
All in all a fantastic trip would highly recommend the area. Lots of history, tons of boats ,good people what more could you ask for.
