Rideau - Ottawa- St Lawrence -clockwise or counterclockwise?

This summer we will be doing the little triangle (Montreal - Kingston - Ottawa). We will be starting in Montreal.

We can travel:

1) clockwise ie Montreal to Kingston, Rideau Canal to Ottawa, then back down the Ottawa River to Montreal, or

2) counter clockwise ie Montreal up the Ottawa River to Ottawa, southwest on the Rideau to Kingston, then back east the St Lawrence Seaway to Montreal

Understand the current in the Seaway is probably a little stronger then on the Ottawa River thus favoring the counterclockwise option.

Any thoughts / recommendations?

When we did the Great Loop, we did the trip counter clockwise, but with a C-Dory, it shouldn't make any difference. Current on the St. Lawrence is much stronger than the Ottawa River.

We started at Kingston then Rideau ottawa and St lawrence but either way should be fine.By the way if the storm gate is open at Iroquois lock you can probably bypass the lock like we did.
