Rubbing Compound

I've started refinishing my boat and need to use rubbing compound on highly oxidized areas. I got some rubbing compound that is brown and it leaves brown stains in some areas. Is this just where I haven't got the oxidation completely off? Is there a special rubbing compound to use on gelcoat or is the stuff for paint ok? I'm open to better/easier suggestions!

I just started to use Collinite's No. 920 Fiberglass Boat Cleaner and find it is amazing at removing oxidiation with minimal rubbing. The little I have cleaned took ten years off the look of the paint/fiberglass.

There are different abrasives and chemical cleaners in rubbing compounds based on how hard the paint, fibergass, plastic, metals or whatever, is expected to be.

Also, some are for hand rubbing, others for machine use.


I'm open to better/easier suggestions!
