Rule 1100 question

Hi Brats,

My stern bilge pump just died (Rule 1100) and I have a new one here on the boat already as a back-up. I replaced my other one about a year ago, but can't remember how I did it.

I seem to remember unplugging the wires from the body of the bilge pump where they enter the housing. However, they don't want to plug. Do I have to disconnect the wires where they are spliced into the wiring and reconnect the new ones the same way?

My memory seems to have gone the way of my hairline!

Thanks,

Nick

Hi Nick,

If you have not already thought of it, it is best to use waterproof butt connectors for the splice. Most hardware stores carry them for use in underground sprinkler or light systems. If not, where you are located any marina should have ample supplies. A heat gun works best to shrink the connector around the splice. Hope to see you and Marcia sometime this summer if I ever get my boat/trailer in order. I had to cancel my cruise with Mark this week because of trailer problems. Though I did get it in the water Friday for a little walleye fishing in Lake Erie. Contrary to what you observed, Sterling State Park was the busiest I have seen it on a weekday. I suspect this is atypical though.

Best regards,
Rollie

Hi Rollie,

Good advice. I was going to install it today before we go home, but think that I will wait until I come up next time with my heat gun.

How was the fishing on Erie? We fished for two days and only caught two sheephead. We cast weight-forward rigs and trolled with Stingers. No luck. I heard that some of the guys using riggers did very well.

Hope to see you around here some time this summer.

Oh yeah, the screens for the portlights work great!

Regards,

Nick

hi nick,
found the interior red led lights! of all places, in a truck stop. they don't recess but rather are flush mounted, looks good and sell for $9.00 each.
regarding the rule pump, don't worry, just hand your wife a bucket when things go south.

Hi Nick,

I didn't fair any better than you. My buddy had one walleye up to the boat but lost it when his leader broke. To add insult to injury, when we were pulling the boat out a guy comes up and asks how we did. I told him the truth; zero. He said his boat limited out and could not believe we got nothing as he was following our wake all day. He even was using the same color lures and bottom bouncers as us. Go figure. I guess sometime the Fishing Gods just aren't with you.

I am pleased to hear that the port screens work for you.

I took my rig back to my dealer today and I think it may be fixed. He confirmed, as I did yesterday, that the tongue weight was way over recommended setting. They had to move the boat back on the bunks about 3 inches and the wheels forward about 4 inches to get the rig within recommended specs. Trailering it home it even felt more stable . Hopefully, this corrective action will fix the abnormal front tire wear problem. Why my rig originally left the shop in this unbalanced condition I will never know.

Best regards,
Rollie/C-Batical
