Salmon - B10 and Beyond

Tiff and I went down to the dock, and were there to grab a line on the Lynn Marie as she came back in. Tim had about the same success as everyone else on the river today. The folks at Tackle Time said they didn't know of any fish caught inside, but the ocean is still hopping. If there were any fish caught at all inside today, they would have been on the Raven, which was conspicuously missing from her berth this morning. But, if Dave and crew didn't catch 'em, they were not there. Give 'em a few weeks, and maybe a good rain, and they'll come a'calling. Hope so, because I have a week of vacation scheduled starting August 23. Don't know if I'll be able to contribute to the Open Seat thread, because I got a list and a line already, but it would be cool to take a distant CB along for a day.

Glad to hear the mighty Columbia is open for business. The lovely Terrie and I made it down to fish the Nehalem this weekend and it was a ZOO . It's the only Chinnok fishery open in the area before August, so it seems all of the Columbia and Tillamook boats converge on our little piece of heaven until the other rivers open.

I was feeling pretty good about my chances to take the lead in our lifetime fishing battle and went into the weekend only 9 lbs. behind Terrie.
I am now 33 lbs. behind after she got a 24lb. hen at about 8 pm Saturday evening. I will put up a pic. in the album right now.

cool Jon, sounds like you better get on the stick, Try discretly catching a glimpse at what Terrie is using and just copy her :)

Wow, WD50, that's the closest you've ever been in all the months I've known you!

B~C - You planning on going outside next weekend? The tide changes are pretty small, but you'll be coming in either on the ebb or in the afternoon wind.

I don't know what is in store for us this weekend - never know - but we should be west of Warrenton somewhere. Maybe I'll just hang your hose on B11 and you can snag it on your way back.

Arrrg, I try to give B11 a wide berth. The tide swings are very small (about 2 feet) and crossing should be no problem if one avoids max ebb, but, Sunday is the latest low at 12:50 so a person could come back in on the flood at decent hour. If things are to lumpy outside, we'll try to scratch up some fish in the river. see ya on the water

We are using the same set up with one slight difference. As long as her herring still spins, she won't change it :disgust. The bait she caught this one on was looking more like herring burger than a fresh cut plug.

But you know, after I take pics of her with her fish, fillet her fish, make the brine to soak her fish and smoke her fish, it tastes as good as any that I have caught :D.

As I've said before; "You got to catch fish to get a good woman, but it takes a good woman to catch fish"

Jon

Mike,

Yea, being behind by only single digits was fun while it lasted :rose2 but as you know close only counts in hand grenades, nuclear weapons and yard darts.

Jon

ok, if you're going to bust my balls on this.......
..Friday, low 11:18 with a 4.5 swing
Sat, low 12:01 with a 3.1 swing
Sunday, 12:50 with a 1.9' swing
Using Enron, fuzzy math, it all averages out to two feet :)

Sheesh, B~C, I was just kidding you! Man, this ain't nothing like the crap Cheers gave me a year or two back for one minor dyslexic transposition of the high/low, and I never quoted Andy Sipowitz at him.

Then on the other hand, you better hope Mr. Cheers doesn't see this one, because according to my trusty Freddy's book, the smallest swing we'll see is 3' on the nose between Sunday's AM high and Sunday's PM low.

That being said, I plan to be at the bar by 6:00 Saturday morning. If we nail 'em quick we can catch the early ebb for return, or stay out until the flood starts about 1:00 in the atternoon.

Of course, none of it matters anyhow, because with this massive monsoon we had today, all the fish in the ocean will come in tonight and be at their spawning grounds by the weekend.

ya sure, now you poke fun at my dsylexia....ya know, as a dsylexic athiest, I don't belive there is a Dog.
I remember your discussion with Cheers..hope he aint listening

My concern for the weekend is the predicted seas, like last weekend, there calling for some nice sized speed bumps. Last weekend I stayed home and did lard work and later found out that it wern't so lumpy. This time around I'll get up and turn on the VHF and get some real time info..may end up fishing in the river. Just never know what the ocean will dish up, they predicted 4' seas today and sure enough, the weather bouy was recording 4 foot seas. but, with a 2.5 second interval..ouch

I'm coming down Thursday evening for the weekend..I'll run into you somewhere I'm sure....turn your radio on 68 so you can hear me being silent :)

Well shoot, if there's only going to be 2-3 ft. of tide I reckon we can just walk across the bar club a few of them lil' fellers.

Hey B~C - Thanks for the Hootchie, Kootchie! Might have to give it try this weekend.

I know it doesn't mean anything for two days from now, but the ocean was real nice this morning until around noon. Or so I was told.

Planning to leave the dock at 5:00 am Saturday and scoot outside.

Put the first fish, salmon type, over the rail today. It was a nice fat 30# Chinook caught in the river just above Ilwaco off Baker Bay entrance. Sure glad I wasn't out at B10 at the height of the season cause it took off and wouldn't quit. If we'd been there I'm sure we would have lost it or gained about a dozen new Pink Ladies.

Will most likely go again on Monday and see if we can get two fish in the boat next time. Don't feel bad with the one though since it was the only thing we saw or heard about in the river while we were out.

Ran in to TyBoo and he was still waiting to get a bite then saw my friend from Cannon Beach with our twin green cruiser, the Old Forester. He was just going out and may have gone to the ocean at slack high water which was 1300 hours.

All in all a good day for the Lynn Marie,
Tim

Yep, I seen it. Nice fish, Tim. Real nice. Good for you. I wonder if you're taking over from Raven Dave as the mid-estuary salmon king. That's the only fish I know of out of the river today.

We got a late start this morning, so didn't even consider running outside. From the chatter on the radio, it sounded like it was for the best. Got nothing but one little flounder. The last check of NOAA said small craft advisories tonight and tomorrow, so we won't be going out there in the morning, either.

Never did see or hear from B~C today. I think he was supposed to have a celebrity crew.

When we got down to the dock, the Minaki was still tied up. I hope Mr. F got the word last night and saved the drive. I didn't see him around. I hear tell that the tuna were 60 miles out, anyhow.

Probably won't go anywhere on the water tomorrow. If nothing is going on, I may try a quick run at high tide right out of Warrenton, but it doesn't look too likely.
