Salmon - B10 and Beyond

What, no company? That Warrenton C-Dory section of the dock is starting to feel like a Maytag repair shop, real lonely. Of course if I could fish like a Maytag that would help.

From what I hear, there was plenty of company. The Warrenton police were directing traffic this morning, and at one point there was a three hour wait for the ramp. Pretty safe bet that Hammond was the same.

Hah!! Nuttin', zip, zero.

That's exactly what we had today and that's not just fish, that includes how many bites we had. And we were not along either. Work is looking good.

check it out, sounds reasonable to me

I don't trust 'em. I don't trust 'em at all.

How come Raven Dave has been so quiet this year? I know why his boat is so quiet - he just got a new four stroke Johnson hung on the back of it. Seen him out fishing a few times, and seen some mighty nice fish in his box, but ain't heard from him on here. Maybe his computer is busted, or something.

 I want to thank Ken for takeing me out on BLUE~C this morning and teaching me how to fish the ocean for Kings. We had wonderful day and caught some nice fish. Had to release a lot of natives but still had some to take home. The ocean was calm and the weather outstanding. What a trip to put in the memory bank.

Glad you had a good time, it was sure a nice day out. I'm REAL glad we got into some fish, the last time I took some folks out and we didn't get into any fish they stole my damn pillow :)

Ken,
Did you get the RANSOM note yet?? I heard they wanted to get another invite and that they would bring the pillow back when they did. HEE HEE .. Lyle

I didn't receive the ransom note yet, I did call the FBI however. They said this could be a terrorist incident and that whoever stole it could be planning to make a pillow bomb out of it.
This weekend is family fishing, fishing trips beyond that are dicey as far as weather, schedule and fish co-operation. We'll have to play it by ear as far as a rematch goes.

The kid just scooted off to football practice grumbling about having to watch an hour of video....I suggested he swap in a salmon catching video :) going to watch those tonight, thanks.

When I left Ilwaco this morning, a boat named "No Bad Days" was calling the Coast Guard cuz he was stuck on Clatsup Spit....guess he'll have to change the name of his boat

Oh, sure, tell everyone that the Mighty Lyle is fishing kings down here, and they do this:

Buoy 10 Regulation Changes After Labor Day

SALEM - Oregon and Washington fishery managers decided to close the
Buoy 10 recreational fishery to chinook retention beginning Tuesday,
Sept, 7, due to higher than expected catch projected through Labor Day.
The fishery will remain open for adipose fin-clipped coho and steelhead
through the end of the year.

The popular "Buoy 10" fall salmon fishery at the mouth of the
Columbia River got off to a slow start in early August but catch rates
improved substantially during the middle of the month. The catch rate
during the week of Aug. 16-22 was near record high and anglers are
projected to land approximately 14,000 chinook through Labor Day.

"I expected the fall chinook fishery to start slowly and then improve
in mid-August," said Curt Melcher, a biologist with the Oregon
Department of Fish and Wildlife. "It improved more dramatically than I
expected and we needed to take this action to remain within our
conservation guidelines and allocation agreements."

"In addition to our conservation mandate, the primary goal for the
Buoy 10 recreational fishery is to provide an all species opportunity
through Labor Day with additional coho fishing opportunity through the
end of the year," Melcher added. "We accomplished that and
maintained flexibility for the recreational fishery that takes place in
the rest of the main-stem Columbia."

Oregon anglers are reminded of the following regulations:

* The Buoy 10 area is defined as that part of the Columbia River from
Buoy 10 upstream to a line projected from Rocky Point on the Washington
bank through red buoy 44 to the navigation light at Tongue Point on the
Oregon bank.

* Salmon fishing in the Buoy 10 area remains open through December, for
adipose fin-clipped coho and adipose fin-clipped steelhead. The daily
bag limit is two salmon.

* The Columbia River upstream from the Rocky Point-Tongue Point line to
Bonneville Dam opened Aug. 1 for fall chinook, adipose fin-clipped coho,
and adipose fin-clipped steelhead through Dec. 31. The daily bag limit
includes two adult salmon, only one of which may be a chinook, and five
jack salmon.

* The Columbia River from Bonneville Dam upstream to the
Oregon-Washington border opened Aug. 1 for fall chinook, coho, and
adipose fin-clipped steelhead through Dec. 31. The daily bag limit
includes two adult salmon and five jack salmon.

* The Pacific Ocean from Tillamook Head, Ore., to Leadbetter Point,
Wash., is open for chinook and adipose fin-clipped coho through Sept.
30. The daily bag limit is two salmon with a minimum size of 24 inches
for chinook and 16 inches for coho.

 Well Mike,
I just took one fish home and they do THAT. NOT NICE. Well I will just fool them and go to Willipa and terrorize those fish then. The 5th I am going out of Westport so see what they do there. Lyle

Just got home off the river after a fair day. Put in at noon and my fish partner and I each had a Chinook to bring home. Jim's was about 15#/29" and mine was just street legal at over 24". sTILL GOOD THOUGH. oFF TO DINNER WITH FRIENDS AND THE REAL lYNN mARIE.

oFF TO DINNER WITH FRIENDS AND THE REAL lYNN mARIE

And you must be pretty excited about it! Either that or you got chubby thumbs and you look at your fingers instead of the screen when you type. That's cool that your daughter is here. Doesn't she live in Arizona or something?

Good deal on the fishies. I think the real reason the chinook quota has been reached is the Raven/Heron tag team.

Got a couple friends going Saturday daylight. We'll run outside if the bar and weather reports are good, or stay right off of Warrenton if it's dicey. Either way, we should be hitting the tides right.

Hey Lyle - Maybe you can make it down for a trip on the NewTyBoo Monday?? I get the day off work, and it is the last day for kings. Perfect weather, and we might even hit the ocean. Maybe we can even talk Miss Tiffany into to going with us, and we'll both learn something!

:( Mike,
Thanks for the invite but I have previous made plans to fish out of Westport with a couple neighbors Monday. One of these days we will get together and go out in your great boat.
I am looking forward to a trip with you. later Lyle

Today I'll try and spend enough time to finish this before being told we Have to leave for dinner. That and I'll take time to correct mistakes.

Fished this morning for a couple of hours and landed my first legal Coho of the year and from the looks of things it's none to soon to figure out how to catch the little buggers. So far this year everything I've kept have been Chinook. Not a bad problem unless they go and close the fishery on you. Our trip was a short one then off to work at 8:30. Don't think I'll fish tomorrow but will hit it hard on Sunday and/or Monday. Talked to Tyboo at the dock and he was headed to work without going fishing. He did wish me luck so I don't expect to hear him whimper or include me in with the "Fish Piggy" boys down the dock.

Tim

Good for you on the coho, Tim. Maybe they will finally show up. Talked to the gal at Tackle Time, and she said the river is still slow but the ocean is good. The ocean, however, is a little rough. She said the small craft advisory for the bar was on and off all day, and the NOAA site still has it up. It's looking like a river show for us tomorrow. Leaving the dock at 5:00 am. Tides should be good for either way.

I am not upset that you went fishing while I had to go to work, but it wouldn't have hurt you to tie back up and skip it out of sympathy.

The last time we were outside, I got so excited about a fish hit that I jumped out of the helm seat and busted the cabin fan off its mount with my head. I had to get the pieces this morning to make a fix for it at work. Them twenty dollar West Marine fans are pretty good for the price, but the mounting/swivel stud is pretty flimsy. I remember making nylon replacements for the ones in the TyBoo22, and so I made another one today. One more to go, but I'll wait until somebody busts it.

I gotta catch some fish! The TyBoo has only 22 keepers this season, and I have been giving most of my catch away. We have only one whole fish left in the freezer after taking two to a guy at work. Sheesh - maybe I can get a sustenence exception to the catch rules.

M and I went out in the river for a short stint about noonish...one small King to the boat. I heard on the VHF a 24 foot Grady White flipped out at Bouy 2 this morning, anybody else hear anything about it?....the guy was probably speeding, sounded like nobody was hurt and when last sighted it was floating upside down south of the CR

B~C - You doing bumper boats tomorrow? I'm guessing I won't like the looks of the bar and ocean in morning, so we'll probably stay between Hammond and the bridge on the Oregon side.
