San Diego / La Jolla restaurants?

Would appreciate some suggestions for a good (but not fancy or super-expensive) restaurant in the San Diego area near La Jolla where some friends and family can join together to celebrate my mother's 90th birthday. Because she is a vegetarian (but the rest of us are not) the place should have a good selection of vegetarian dishes in addition to non.

Thanks!

La Jolla and relatively inexpensive restaurants suitable for a birthday party is like fishing for Marlin in San Diego Bay. Theoretically possible but highly unlikely. An example.

If you extend your search area a bit you may find some, but vegan food and party suitable restaurants are still pretty difficult. As for chains, there is "El Torito's" nearby, 8910 Villa La Jolla Dr., with one or two somewhat vegetarian entrees, but they too use animal fats to fry their tortillas and chips etc. and cheese is in everything except the margaritas. They use Huervo Gold, btw, and those margaritas are cheap and strong. Slip mama one of those and your vegan problem might be solved.

We've dined in La Jolla itself on really special occasions (Anniversaries and birthdays aren't included in that list) but find there's lots more nice restaurants in the University City area. Google it.

Or you could just part with the bucks and go to Thee Bungalow...we tried this one a few years ago on our "Thanksgiving Anywhere But Here" dealibob, and this is just a great restaurant. If we ever get to Sandy Eggo again, this is where I want Uncle Don to take us! This might have been BCD (Before C-Dory), not sure - we also rented a SeaRay at the place across from the Del Coronado and did our own self-guided tour of the Bay, which was really fun!
