San Francisco Here we Come...

The boys and I are headed to San Francisco Monday for 4 days of Bay exploration. Monday night we'll stay at the Berkeley Doubletree and launch in the am on Tuesday. I've reserved a slip at Pier 39 for 3 nights -- that should give us walking access to the entire waterfront, North Beach/ China Town -- and we'll have easy enough boating access to Angel Island, Sausalito/ Tiburon etc.

I thought about making a run up to Suisun Bay to see the Ghost fleet before it's gone, though we may not have the time.

Any suggestions as to where to dock for a few hours in Sausalito (or where to dinghy ashore) would be delightful -- as well as any other suggestions on what we ought not miss.

In College we used to live in Berkeley and I taught sailing at a club in the Berkeley marina -- I actually tried to live aboard a 26' sailboat but my not-yet wife refused to join me -- something about the cold wet gale we got every afternoon and the damp cramped quarters. I didn't understand...

In any case it's been many many years since I've been on the Bay, so if there is anything new over the last 20 years do share!

Slack tide under the Golden Gate Bridge on Tuesday is 12:46 pm. Be there or be square!

Cheers!

Matt

I still don't understand...she was a beauty...I would still be a bachelor had it been me.

I just spent last Friday day, night in Sausalito and Saturday night at the South Bay Marina. Angle Island has nice slips for dock side tie up. Slips are 15 bucks and safe to leave and hike on the Island. Spent Saturday morning after hiking cruising out the gate and down along city front. St. Francis, pier 39 (lots of stinky loud barking sea lions) Pier 23 (pub :beer) great place :thup To South Bay Marina right at the AT&T Ball park.
We came down from Rio Vista through Suisun Bay and San Pablo Bay on Thurs. Went back 60 plus miles on Sunday morning. Water in SF Bay at 6:45 am was OK. Water in San Pablo Bay OK til Carquinez St. where it changed to a 4-5 ft. following sea, out going tied on the nose. All the way through Suisun right up to the entrance to the Sac. River Channel where it mellowed slightly.
The "Chost Fleet" is still there but I'd leave it out of the plans and stick around the city so that if it did blow up you can just go home and tie up.
Good luck with the weather and have a great time.

How come no pics of the Delta trip, I had to go over to the Stripers owner site(I owned a Striper prior to the C-Dory) to look at pics of the group on Angel Island, the owner of the Striper site happened to be there with his grandkids and he shot some pics of his boat surrounded by C-Dory's.

Thanks Steve -- I agree re Suisun Bay. Hopefully the Sea Lions won't be too loud, we'll be two docks down near the sea wall. Where did you stay in Sausalito?

Papillon, that Ranger was a beauty -- and perfect for the bay. But the thing about my wife -- not only is she more beautiful, she let me keep the boat AND camp out at her apt. Her roommates eventually threw us both out. I guess I was a freeloader... oh College. Miss those days!

I'll post some pics next week. The forecast is for light winds (5-8 kts) and rain likely Tuesday night. 30-40% chance of rain W & Th. What are you gonna do... I'll take the rain over gusty winds.
