someone else had post an identical problem concerning the support system for the gas reservoir. to best describe my problem and solution, i will label each part as A, B and C.
when you look at the gas tanks, you'll see a starboard panel (B), (not sure if it's starboard material, but you know what i'm talking about) attached to this panel is a piece of trim (A), which (until pulled out) was screwed into the hull.
part (C) is attached to the back of part (B) approximately 2" down from the top. connected to part (B) is a cleat which holds a binding strap.
ok, that's a mouth full! part (A) has 4 screws and all have been pulled out of the hull. this, in my opinion was caused by 3 occurrences, 1. gas tank became disfigured, 2. strapping was synched to tight, 3. part (C) was mounted to low onto part (B).
here's how i have remedied this problem. disassembled all 3 parts. mounted part (C) 1/2" higher onto part (B), epoxied screw holes in hull and attached part (A), to hull, then secured part (A) to part (C) using 1 1/4" screws. then attached the strapping to part (C) snugly.
i'm now beginning to feel like dr. bob.
so, for those of you who have not experienced this problem, i would suggest that you check out the strapping, my opinion is, it should be snug but not extremely tight.
i did this to both fuel tanks and found that part (C) was mounted to part (B) using different measurements, one was off by 1/4", just enough to have contribute to my problem. someone must have eye-balled it and certainly not have used a jig, as any wood worker would have used!
best regards
pat
