someone else had post an identical problem concerning the support system for the gas reservoir. to best describe my problem and solution, i will label each part as A, B and C.
when you look at the gas tanks, you'll see a starboard panel (B), (not sure if it's starboard material, but you know what i'm talking about) attached to this panel is a piece of trim (A), which (until pulled out) was screwed into the hull.
part (C) is attached to the back of part (B) approximately 2" down from the top. connected to part (B) is a cleat which holds a binding strap.
ok, that's a mouth full! part (A) has 4 screws and all have been pulled out of the hull. this, in my opinion was caused by 3 occurrences, 1. gas tank became disfigured, 2. strapping was synched to tight, 3. part (C) was mounted to low onto part (B).
here's how i have remedied this problem. disassembled all 3 parts. mounted part (C) 1/2" higher onto part (B), epoxied screw holes in hull and attached part (A), to hull, then secured part (A) to part (C) using 1 1/4" screws. then attached the strapping to part (C) snugly.
i'm now beginning to feel like dr. bob.
so, for those of you who have not experienced this problem, i would suggest that you check out the strapping, my opinion is, it should be snug but not extremely tight.
i did this to both fuel tanks and found that part (C) was mounted to part (B) using different measurements, one was off by 1/4", just enough to have contribute to my problem. someone must have eye-balled it and certainly not have used a jig, as any wood worker would have used!
best regards

hi joe,
your pictures are right on. this brings up another problem regarding how the trim stirp was mounted to the backing board. if the backing board is not scribed exactly to the hull, and the trim stirp is screwed into the backing board, then screwed into the hull, no way is the trim strip going to conform to the hull and thus the screws are at that point stressed. least little pressure on the backing board pulls the screws out. i have secured the trim to the hull and only then attach the backing board to the trim, the way i believe it should have been done originally.
regarding my pictures, i'm somewhat embarrassed to state, i haven't figured out how to establish an album, to post pictures. guess it's my technology challenged abilities!
best regards

Pat-send a PM to Tyboo or DaNag asking for a picture album. When your boat name turns blue, click on it to get to the new album. Instructions for loading pictures are there. If you have any problems then, just ask.

Hey Pat! Glad to hear you are getting your boat in order...and ready for travel. Now...get the rest of the stuff on there.

No way can I pass this up....but, after having met you...and seeing the great shape you keep yourself in... I have visions of you being the guy in the TV comercial who's high-tech daughter buys them a hot pink cell phone....and the waitress ask him something to the manner of..."You want more coffee Princess?"....

Other C-Brats who have not met Pat....do not take this wrong... He is no princess, but rather a "poster man" for some company that wants someone who looks like many of us wish we looked like...and today if I looked like that and kept myself in his shape...more than likely these BP and other non-recreational pills I take daily could be tossed out.

Good work Pat...hope to see you on some waters soon.

Pat,good fix. The taking the stress off of the cleat is important. Also using a bedding compound--and adhesive--such as 5200 is important, along with the epoxy filling and reboring the pilot hole.

ok byrdman,
that's not funny! theres nothing wrong with me being 5'2" and weighing 235. thats just plain wrong! i'm now just as confused as a cow on astroturf.
any ways, thank you for your kind words and i'll send the check today.
see you in maryland.
best regards
pat
