How's the trip from Long beach / San Pedro to Catalina in your CD22?
dive, dive, dive
:smiled

The trip from Long Beach or San Pedro to Catalina is about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. This includes slow time out of the marina, until you are tired to a mooring or anchored. I spent 50 years boating out of this area. You want to go over to the Island early in the morning. Wind starts kicking up by 11 AM most days. You can come back almost any time, unless there is a Santana Wind--(offshore), But the trip will be easier and smoother earlier in the day. I have gone over to Catalina late in the day many times in a deep V runabout--and would not like to do it in a C Dory 22. Even with the deep V we would go up inside the lee of the breakwater and Pt. Fermin and then go across--the trip would take 2.5 to 3 hours. IN the early AM I would make it from Catalina to my house in Huntington Harbor in just over an hour.

Cal Coast, I love your photos. Merry and I will be on the Nautilus Swell in September for one of their last trips. They sold the boat and will cease operations on December 1.

We did the 10 day trip Juneau to Ketchikan June 2013 - awesome! You WILL enjoy yourselves. We are planning to book with them again, so if you learn more about their plans in September I'd be very interested.

Thanks thataway - that's exactly what I was looking for, great advice!

I hope to write and tell you of my experience soon :smiled

A few years ago we "accidentally" (because we got a late start to cross Queen Charlotte Strait) anchored at "God's Pocket Resort" which is about 8 nautical miles Port Hardy BC. We made reservations for dinner--which was excellent, and each time we went that way stopped again.

God's Pocket is a dive resort on Hurst Island, on Christie Strait. The folks who were staying there, seemed to really be enjoying the diving, and it seemed like a first class diving resort.

I mention this for those who may not want to take a long trip up the Inland Passage (which is a fantastic run), but still want to have a resort based diving experience for tank filling etc. The various reviews also give this resort a 5 star rating.

They hope to open a land based operation like the one at God's Pocket. I presume they will take divers out in smaller boats. I feel more pressure than ever to get good photos on our September trip now. :)

I doubt you will be pressed for great photo subjects - it is 'prolific' in every sense. We shot as much top-side as below - Glacier day was simply spactacular!

Hey Roger ......Ya never told me about those bugs...probably good thing as I would have come fer dinner.... or worse.

I have a mount just like Roger has...(C-halk) yea. I know but I like to razz him.. maybe not so much as I see several abbs in that photo....

I had my bracket made up by the person that made his mount...works great for diving... make sure you mount it close enough to the cabin that you can use that hand hold on the cabins side.

ah, yes good point! location, location, location 8)

I too liked the Tomcat for diving. I added the East Coast Plastics rail system for tank holders and it was perfect. The swim platform with ladder was great for getting our full suited.

I think your idea would be fine for the C-22. Easy back-roll in and use a crab puller to haul our your rig.

Climbing out fully suited would have been the hard part of course requiring some strong supports and engineering.
