Sealegs, not what you think

wow, if it had four wheels + a Tomcat I WOULD have a boaterhome, the cost savings on a trailer and tow vehicle would be huge....we could wheel that baby down to lake Powell in style :)
 
TR, they do not offer a four stroke outboard until you get into the bigger boat. Your choices are a two stroke Yamaha or E-Tec. The website led me to believe that it is a weight thing.

It's gonna take you a LONG, LONG time to get there, Ken. You can only run on the wheels for 10 minutes (or 1km) and then you have to shut it down to cool for 20 minutes. :? http://www.sealegs.com/home-faq.asp

It kinda reminds me of the motorhome that can be driven into the water... no takers on that one, maybe because it could only be used in very calm, fresh water... or maybe because no one wanted to drive a $300,000 motorhome into the water... or maybe because no one asked the designer, "What's the point?" :roll:

The Sealegs is an interesting premise with a pretty narrow practical use, IMHO. But, I do like the name... or maybe C-Legs? I'm already picturing the uniform for the all-female crew. 8)

Great post, Jim, and it does give me an idea:

How about developing a rental fleet of 50-75 foot long flat barges with a pilothouse on the front, rear o/b propulsion, safety rails, etc. that could be rented to folks who wanted to put their tow vehicle and trailer (or motor home) on one, and then go touring around a protected waterway?

Could be a round trip and / or a one way system with other folks returning the barge to the other end of the line.

Would require protected inland water conditions, and the provider would have to go through safety checks with the customers, provide tow service off groundings, emergency services, etc..

Some of the houseboats on Shasta Lake go for $7000 + per week. What could one charge for a mobile floating platform to tour ______________LAKE POWELL, THE EVERGLADES, ERIE CANAL, MISSISSIPPI RIVER, FOR INSTANCE?

Maybe impractical, maybe not . Lots of thinking to do!
