A friend has a 16 angler and his 15 Evinrude just died. he is thinking about the BF8 honda and was wonderin what shaft length he should get for her.he has a 55 Tohatsu as primary motor and has had the 15 as the kicker. he has been told it would cost 500 in parts alone to redo his 15 plus labor.
the 8 is looking better to him as he does a lot of trolling with it.

When I bought my used 1990 Angler, it had a short shaft 8hp Evinrude two stroke. It tended to cavitate and of course smoked a lot while trolling so I put a long shaft 8hp Honda on and it works great. The only thing I would do different is purchase the 8 hp Classic (square cowling) instead of the newer model (rounded cowling) because it is about 20 pounds lighter.

When we had our 16' Angler, we had a 5hsp Honda long shaft. This worked perfectly for trolling and we had it mounted directly on the transom. The only problem I found was that when the kicker was in the raised position while under main power, the kicker would drag in the water when not on plane and would drag when turning to that direction even when on plane. Wasn't horrible but those were the only drawbacks I found.
