Shark Attack!

Hey Mike, don't go swimming next to your house......I just saw on the news that a surfer was attacked by a "great white" just south of your place in Seaside, Oregon. The photo on TV showed the wound and said that it was isolated to his lower leg and foot. They said that he'd be home for Christmas.

Yeah, I saw that too. I don't know what's weirder - the shark being there or the guy surfing.

Right now we got a stupid hurricane blowing through it sounds like. Fifty knot winds and sideways rain. The dogs are scared, grandma is antsy and the son and daughter are awake. Four grandkids are still asleep, but between grandma jumping up and down, her cleaning the rug where the dog peed, and crap bouncing off the house I can't sleep for nothing. Gonna be an early Christmas morning for us.

The offshore buoy reports aren't all working, but the nearest one that is shows 20 foot waves at 9 seconds. That's a little steep for my tastes.

Unlike the moron, the shark belongs there.

Dogon, that's pretty much what I said to Steve when he told me about it too...just not so elegantly

Does anyone know the speed of the winds last night? We've got giant firs around our house....not conducive to sleeping when you hear THAT kinda wind!

From what I hear about sharks, they like seals and sea lions way better than surfers, but their eye sight is so bad they have a hard time telling them apart. If we could just find an Optometrist that was willing to make water calls and fit them with contact lenses I'd be all in favor of inviting them up into the Columbia River. Up here they could partake in their favorite foods since that seems to be where a bunch of those pinniped types are living now.

Not sure I should be thinking those kind of thoughts at Christmas or I could find all my gifts have turned to coal. but it sure seems to be a waste of a hungry shark.

The site of the attack is one of several world class surf sites on the Oregon coast. Regularly overhead to double overhead waves, with a perfect left. Not for the inexperienced or timid: boulder bottom and a nasty access from the beach. Hit the Cove at the S end of Seaside the next time you are there, and use your bninocs to catch some eye-popping rides!
