Shower leak on 25

I talked to Bret at CDory about the problem with the shower leaking onto the cabin floor. The water migrates thru the door seal and leaks onto the cabin floor. CDory recommends that a shower curtin be added with snaps much like curtins installed in the head. This will channel the water away from the door seal and onto the shower floor. I hope to have this fix installed soon and will post some pictures when I do.
 
There is nothing special about this fix, just a Sunbrella cover (matches the interior of course) for the inside of the shower door. We have one but never use it, Buck (no longer with C-Dory) tweaked the door and installed a new seal that corrected the problem. The cover is just for insurance.
 
Jerry, I know that there are a few boats with this problem. I had my boat at the factory for the last two weeks and no mention of a seal problem fix. Bret (CDory) said that the curtin was his recommendation for the fix. I like the fixed seal as the solution but I guess I will try to figure out how to tweak it to get it to seal better.

When I first examined our shower door (last Summer), it appeared that a double seal extending around the bottom and up the sides about three inches might be the best answer. The shower doors on all of the 25's that I've seen have the same problem of excess clearance at the door base.

When you examine your door you will see that it does not adjust and must be tweaked (slightly bent in at the bottom) to reduce clearance. Of course tweaking comes with a price, minor indentation in the rim near the handle but it works, no leak thus far.

Please keep us informed as to how you solve this minor problem. There may be a better idea than tweaking the door or making a shower curtain.

By the way, our boats share the same exterior and interior color scheme. :D
 
I noticed the leaking shower/head door the first time I used the shower. My thought for a solution was a strip of starboard cut at an angle ( wedge shaped) and attached across the bottom of the door. The water would sheet down the door and over the starboard and drip to the floor instead of down into the seal. Would put a saw cut under the bottom for a drip.

Another problem I noticed this week-end was that the door material which looks like starboard, expands when it is warm. And the door would not close properly. The whole bottom hung up on the frame along with the upper right corner. Next morning it closed much better when it had cooled.

Well, both Thursday and Friday were rather warm! On Thursday we stopped by E.Q. so I could show Lynn our boat. We were both amazed with how hot it was when we opened the door to look inside. Never dreamed we would be thinking of air conditioning!
All seriousness aside, it was hot. :smilep,

Here's the shower curtain, as seen through the cockpit window, that the factory installed a few years ago. It completely eliminated the leaks into the cabin. A simple but effective fix.

I am trying this first as it leaves the user nothing extra to do before or after use. My backup plan involves a small rollup "curtain" affixed to the door bottom shaped like a bell with magnet snaps to hold the shape when rolled out. It would be only about a foot in length and the wings folded inward before rolling it up and velcro would hold it rolled up. I already have the material but thought I would try the most simple fix first.. If a bit of water makes it outside the shower, that will be ok. We just don't need the volume we had at Bellingham with nothing in place and Cindie not being carefull with the spray. I saw your curtain solution Roger and like it but would like to avoid storing it or dealing with snaps or rolling such a large panel up and worrying about drying it somewhere.
