Simrad Electronics Package

I've been researching a complete electronics package, and had decided on a Simrad NSS evo2 w/broadband 4G RADAR and autopilot.

Defender just announced an electronics sale a few days ago, and plopping everything I needed in the cart got me almost $1K in savings over the best price I could find elsewhere. Was planning on pulling the trigger before the sale ended this weekend.

This morning, I stumbled upon a deal I couldn't pass up...

Use coupon code GRAND15 for an additional 15% off your order. Their Simrad prices were already lower than Defender's sale prices, and using the coupon code got me an additional $1200 savings.

My first order with these guys, but they have a great reputation over at THT.

Can you share your electronics package details (order cart) including price. We are considering upgrading our electronics as well and would like to get an idea of what the total cost would be. Since you already did the research, I would like to see what type of pricing is available for such an upgrade.

You can PM me if that is better.

Buyer beware, do your own research, etc. ...

The screen size we chose (12") might be a tad large for many C-Dorys, so perhaps the NSS7 or NSS9 evo2 would be more appropriate. These smaller MFD's likely have their own RADAR combo packs.

Also, there are various cables in the order specific to our needs...fetching AIS data from our VHF, adaptor for reusing our existing thru-hull transducer, etc.

Otherwise, I'm guessing the major components would be fine on any C-Dory with hydraulic steering.

Didn't want to sidetrack the "Deals" thread with specifics of the electronics update I'll be undertaking, so I split the above replies off to this thread.

One thing I'm going to be a bit of a guinea pig on...the ability of broadband/4G RADAR to penetrate obstructions. Our dinghy (AK 270TDS, no metal/composite) will be in the line of site. This doesn't seem to be a problem for traditional RADAR, but I've been unable to determine if broadband RADAR technology is any different in this regard.

If so - a RADAR mast will be added. Just hoping it's not necessary.

I'll be curious to hear how you like the NSS12 evo2. I have an NSS12 gen 1 and have been pleased with it so far, but I haven't really gotten it set up for anything beyond chartplotting. The 4G radar is still under my bunk (where it has been since May). One of these days I'll stop using the boat long enough to get it installed...

BTW...hows the NT treating you?

Well, Sam...you'll just have to excuse me if I don't feel very sympathetic to your "problem"...

Absolutely loving it...with one exception.

The relaxation and enjoyment we get going at trawler speeds is hampered significantly without an autopilot - much more so than when in the C-Dory. The need to apply constant course corrections - particularly when headed in a straight line for an hour plus - will not be missed.

I am interested to certify my app on as Simrad system. Its built for GoFree on a Lowrance. This app calls out the depth (SBT) sentence from the datastream.
