uhhhh.... this doesn't look like Kansas, Toto.

Yeah, that's a good thing. Kansas kinda reminds me of.....Bayliners.

My apologies in advance to any Kansans in the audience.

What is the plan, or is there a plan for copying the threads from the MSN-Brat site over to here?

This is way better than MSN. Loads much quicker.

Certainly open for discussion, but the reality of it is, copying over posts is very time consuming, and the only easy way is to cut/paste an entire thread into one post. You can see examples of how I did this over in the Library sections of this site - it gets the info over, but it's not as nice as having individual posts. The Library topics/posts weren't too bad - there were relatively few posts compared to the Pub, and I also saw it as a more worthwhile candidate - chat topics tend to fade away or only be current for a short period of time, tech topics are often used for reference.

My suggestion - ignore the C-Brat Pub posts, but let's bring over the photo albums. I'll handle this, but as with the CBTech photos, none of the descriptions come over initially. The descriptions are easily added to the photo albums, but that involves more text cut/pasting and time. I think this would be a worthwhile endeavor - anyone up for the task? It could be split up amongst several folks, if there is interest.

Guess I found my way over here; don't tell Kathy I'm doing this during working hours!

It really looks good; this is the same BB software I was using and I like it a lot.

Way to go guys!!! Itsa home run.....

Oh, how I love that spellchecker!

Don't forget to bring Dusty's Radar lessons over here, they're priceless. :D

Already done - you're right, no way we'd leave those behind.

You can see them all in the Seamanship section of the Library. This also shows another cool feature we have here - "Sticky" topics. If a discussion is deemed worthy enough, making it "Sticky" keeps it at the top of the forum, so it doesn't get lost as time goes by.

Bill

You've done a heckuva good job already on this site. What is the scoop on the photo albums? Will we be able to have our own photo albums here? Post pics?

Howdy Larry,

I'm in the process of copying photos over right now. The CBTech photos are done as are the Cruise photos - working on the "Our C-Dory Albums" right now, going in alphabetical order.

Once done, I'll set up the permissions to allow folks to post to them.

Welcome aboard, Brock! Pull up a chair and watch Danag Bill put on a show. I just hope he doesn't burn out doing all of this so quickly. I'd hate to see Dana come on here and do a post about how she found him slumped over at his computer with smoke coming out of his ears... scorched mouse finger.. and repeatedly mumbling something incoherently about "copy and paste". :D

How you holding up, Bill?

No problemo - it looks like I've done a lot more than I have. All told, I've got maybe 40 hours into this place so far. All the software you see here is Open Source - written by others, free to use. It's the future, man!

My job here has consisted of packaging different components together, tweaking the source code a bit here and there to customize it just for us, and lot's of cutting/pasting from the MSN sites to here. Nothing real tough or glamorous, but I like the results so far.

I went with the hosting company that houses three of my other domains - JaguarPC.

It's a bit of a risk; I've actually had good and bad luck with them. When I first signed up with them a little over a year ago, they were owned by somebody else, and things were pretty good. After they were acquired, they went through some growing pains; more frequent outages than I'd like to see, and they even lost some of my data once (not a big deal, as I can and do perform my own backups). For the last couple of months, they've been pretty darn good - very responsive when problems do crop up, and uptime and performance has been decent.

Still, I'm not the trusting type when it comes to these type of businesses - I've seen way too many ISP's go bad in a hurry. That being the case, nothing has been done here that couldn't be transferred to another provider in short order, should the situation warrant it. Hopefully, that won't be necessary, but it's good to be prepared.

Ok, so everyone's gonna blush and say 'aw shucks' and such...but, the cost of keeping this puppy rolling ought not to come out of any one person's pocket. Howzabout we have a general fund to take care of whatever crops up? A purely voluntary donation type thing; whatever isn't needed for the site can be used for the annaul SBS shindig or other get togethers.

Les

I don't like that idea. I say whatever extra comes in, goes towards my new boat... :D

Seriously, it's just not that big of a deal, assuming we can get by on the service plan we started with. Mike and I are splitting it for the first year, let's just see how it goes.

I'll take a risk and speak for Mike, but I bet if you all buy our beer at SBS, we'll calll it a wash.

Pssst, Mike...we can come out WAY ahead on this one. Shhhhhh...
