I recieved news today that "Skipper Bob" passed on some time yesterday when putting up his Christmas decorations. I had the pleasure of knowing Bob Reib and his wife Elaine when we gave presentations at Trawler Fest.

Skipper Bob cruised over 44,000 miles along the Coast line, Great Loop and Caribbean. He wrote 8 cruising guides to the East Coast, Gulf Coast, the Great Loop and Bahamas which were filled with pertinant facts, suscinct and in expensive. He also maintaned a web site with up to day information on the waterways. He was an excellent lecturer and very personable, honerable man. His death is a real loss to the East Coast cruising community all types of boats.

I hope that Elaine will continue to publish the guides and that this infomation continues to be desciminated.

I've never had the pleasure of meeting Skipper Bob or reading his contibutions to the boating community. None the less, I feel sorrow in hearing of his passing and hope that Elaine and his friends can find some comfort in this dark hour.
You have our condolences.

We used Skipper Bob's cruising guides when we toured the East Coast, and found them packed with GOOD information. Where to anchor out, where to get fuel, etc. I'm sorry to hear about his death, and hope the guides are continued. Sort of like Charlie's Charts?

Elaine has posted a "Thank you" note on the Great Loop list and says that she will continue to publish the guides. This is a great way to honor their work together.

Bob-

Sorry to hear of your friend's passing. I'm sure you and Marie were very close to him and to Elaine. I sounds like he leaves quite a legacy behind for all to enjoy!

Our sailing friends are some of our dearest, too, as most of my and Cathy's really close friends have been made through sailing and boating friendships, rather than professional associations.

Joe.

We have used Skipper Bob's publications for many years while cruising in the Eastern US -- and have had many long and informative emails from Bob regarding best anchorages and good boating ideas. His passing is indeed a loss for boaters -- both for his breadth of knowledge and for his wonderful, concerned and sincere personality. Bon voyage, Bob -- we will miss you but know you are cruising even better waters. el and bill
