Sleep number beds?

The Admiral and I are thinking about getting one of those sleep number beds by Select Comfort.

Are there any C-Brat's who own one? I would appreciate your feedback about the bed if yes.

A month ago I all of a sudden could not get comfortable in our bed. I would wake up with a sore lower back. I'm active in the gym, etc. but it was not an injury. If we slept in a guest room with a firmer mattress the pain went away. Our main bed is about 5 years old but there are indentations where we usually lay. This particular type of mattress has a fixed cover and can't be flipped as is the case with other spring beds we have owned.

The concept makes sense but I have never spoken to someone who has owned one.

Thanks!

We bought one for the motorhome we had at the time - liked it so much, we bought another for the house. When we sold the coach, I took the Select Comfort out of that and put it in the guest room at our daughter and son-in-law's house (for when we visit). Two very enthusiastic thumbs up for this mattress. :thup :thup

We had a waterbed for years, and I didn't think it could get much better than that... 'till I tried this.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Thanks.
Do you recall what model you have? I think they run in series...something like 3000....4000....5000 etc. We were specifically thinking about the 5000 series. They are not cheap but we of course do not want to stay in the guest room forever :)

We've had a Sleep Number 5000 series for about four years and love it. Over this Wifetime I've used (and killed) everything from waterbeds to Sterns & Fosters, and this Sleep Number is still going strong. Spouse is a chiropractor so we got a deep discount and a bunch of discount coupons to hand out to patients if she liked it so check with your friendly DC who may have a good discount coupon. DC's don't get "commissions", just the special purchase cut to experience it and (hopefully) recommend it to patients. It worked.

It took some time to get a "feel" for the right pressure number but once found, it's been steady unless a back problem required some extra stiffness 'till it went away.

....sleep number beds, espresso coffee machines, air conditioners....where am I? :?

Hey, Marty... "That's Life". :wink Now, you may not want a Select Comfort, espresso machine or A/C on your 16, but some of us keep an eye out for ways to spend more time onboard, comfortably. We aren't all Bill and El, ya know.

Say, aren't you the guy who started that "$10 burger thread"???

Yep... that's life.

Best wishes,
Jim

PS - You spend 1/3 of your time in bed. I'm looking forward to spending even more time than that back on the boat. :D

From another thread...

There was a special on Public TV awhile back regarding the numerous major disastors in which sleep deprivation (lack of sleep and/or disturbed sleep) in which they cited the Exon incident and Chernoble (sp) and 3 Mile Island as incidents in which the major cause was lack of sleep. I know alcohol was involved also, but the program cited sleep problems as the major problem...

They said most major disastors and/or lack of adequate rapid response to disastors was due to sleep deprivation.

See - now the discussion on sleep number beds is related to boating. It's really a safety matter....

Reviewing this short thread, I (even I) can see an arrogance in my post. I do apologize for my failed attempt at humor. There is certainly nothing wrong with bringing up any issue (other than politics, religion, and environment) on the 'That's Life" restricted thread. So, to any and all that my post offended, I do say I'm sorry.

Come on, Marty; it takes a lot more than your post to offend us. I'll tell you what the problem is in this country today: too much apologizing. Yeah, everyone is running around, all scared that they're going to offend someone... so it's a bunch of "I'm sorry" stuff. If we can't take a little ribbing 'cause we like a cushy mattress or a good greasy burger, well, I'm sorry, but we're all getting too sensitive. Yep, too damn much apologizing. In fact, I might call up Tom and see just how much crap he'll take before I offend him. Real men don't apologize for nuthin' (spit, scratch). And if they can't take that, they can kiss my pasty white...

Ummm... OK, I'm sorry if I offended anyone. And that whole "too much apologizing" thing? Yeah, I'm sorry I said that, too. I don't know what I was thinking. Sorry. Really.

One sorry SOB,
Jim

Now I am offended - Marty your the last one who should ever apologize on this site.

Oh, btw - we sleep on one of those comfort sleep number beds in a hotel once - my side was malfunctioning and it keep changing during the night, I would never get one, worst night sleep in a long time.
