SNOW

Us guys here in the Mid Atlantic are getting hammered with snow.
Can't even think - while I have - of getting to my boat because we had 25"
over the weekend and now are expecting another
"10 to 20" according to the NWS. They were right on last weekend
and that means a total of 45 to 50 inches of snow on the ground.
This is ridiculous! I don't have any space to put the new snow.
Wish I had open water to boat on..My creeks are frozen, I'm frozen,
thanks to all you guys who can still get out and tell us about it.
Helps make my winter better.

I'm in Annapolis ,MD

Spent a summer at Annapolis on the bouys. It was 95, and that was just the humidity. So wait for summer and then think of winter.

Got down to 42 this morn in San Diego.

I wish we (or the mountains, really) were getting that much snow. We'd have some terrific powder skiing.

Good luck with all of it, though. Seattle would be in big trouble with that much snow!

PNW in general, Snow pack is down an average of 40%, leaving some of us to wonder about drinking powdered water come summer. You all out east hang in there. Dig a snow cave, and make a snow angel.

Good luck and stay warm,

Harvey

That's it.
We just don't see this kind of snow and while I'm somewhat prepared for it - our locality has a hard time handling it.
Not to mention the budget it takes to pay the folks who have to work many hours to help us out.

We are just not used to this and I have not prepared my boats for this kind of winter.
Give some thought to this.

Yeah, but we "got ours" last winter. Shut down Seattle for DAYS. It's been NICE here. Had I known it was gonna be this warm I would've kept the boat OUT of storage. :?

I understand your pain in the east. Was stationed near DC when just a foot hit the city. They aren't prepared for anything major and neither are my relatives on the shore in NJ. Plumber stepson has worked 14 days straight and problems still rolling in.

As for us? Well, tonight we're due for snow down to the 2,000 ft. level which means tomorrow morning I can go down to the beach in shorts and see snow in the surrounding mountains.

My kind'a weather.

Don

No snow left here in Virginia Beach. The Ches. Bay helps till we get
the 'bay effect' with its added moisture.

Charlie, you can move a little more south to the warmer parts of VA;
though we do have some surface ice on the shallower backwaters. If
you and more snow do come,, I will reserve both of my snow shovels
for your use.

The snow is all gone, but now the rain is starting... again. It almost seems
that parts of the PNW has moved here lately with the liquid sunshine
visiting us on the Mid-Atlantic.

After we see the CPA Thursday I plan to go to the boat and redo some
NMEA wiring. I might as well have cabin fever in the boat cabin, rather
than at the house. AH Yes, this is why I stayed here rather than move
back to the Boston area. D*** Yankee, yes.

Marcia and I just spent six days at our cabin and got home today. We got hit with 16 inches down there in Amish country and our driveway is about 150 yards long! Fortunately, a neighbor showed up with a Bobcat and p/u with plow. We are very glad to have good country neighbors nearby. We were also able to spend lots of time on our xc skis, which we hadn't been able to do here for a while. The forecast calls for another foot tonight.

The good news is that in two weeks I head south to get Valkyrie in NC and then I'm Keys-bound!

Snow doesn't seem so sucky when you know you can get away from it.

It only got to about 54º here today, cloudy and windy... not a bad day for a C-Dory with the Wallas running. People are dressed like it's Siberia. This will last a couple days, and the local weather weasels call this "another blast of winter weather." They should have to spend hours shoveling out a snow-packed driveway when it's below zero, only to have the damn city snowplow block you back in again. :crook

You folks in the path of this next snow situation have my warm wishes.

Enough already! I thought the best things about being a school teacher were summer vacation and snow days. I'm still high on summer, but snow days are only good for cabin fever if you can't even get out to get to the marina.

ahhhh, ya wimps! We got another 10" here in mid Michigan last night... Only thing I said this morning as I busted trail at oh dark thirty, with the 4X4 smashing into drifts as high as the headlights was, "yeee haaaa" while the powder exploded 20 feet in the air... Looked just like rollers breaking on a sea wall...
Would I trade all this for moon flecked seas, perfumed air, and nubile maidens serving me a mai tai on the beach?

Well shucks, yes...

Prediction of up to 2" of snow in Pensacola, Fl. Today and tomarrow (Global Warming)--it has been 17 years since the last trace (also this is one of the coldest winters on the Gulf coast)--Schools and some businesses will be closed, front loaders gearing up with sand etc...you would think it will be a blizzard! That's life in Florida!

It's not all bad news:
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/florida/fl-dead-pythons-20100210,0,2580112.story

Vultures circled over Everglades National Park's Anhinga Trail, where thousands of dead non-native fish floated in the marshes.

About half the Burmese pythons found in the park in the past few weeks were dead.

Dead iguanas have dropped from trees onto patios across South Florida. And in western Miami-Dade County, three African rock pythons — powerful constrictors that can kill people — have turned up dead.

Although South Florida's warm, moist climate has nurtured a vast range of non-native plants and animals, a cold snap last month reminded these unwanted guests they're not in Burma or Ecuador anymore.

Temperatures that dropped into the 30s killed Burmese pythons, iguanas and other marquee names in the state's invasive species zoo.

Although reports so far say the cold has not eliminated any of them, it has sharply reduced their numbers, which some say may indicate South Florida is not as welcoming to invaders as originally thought.
