SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Robbi
Nice job on the installation of the Dickinson fireplace. I have been looking at these for awhile now. Seeing your photos put me over the edge. I ordered one yesterday. I might be in trouble when the wife finds out. Untill the first cold night on board that is. :angel

Today, I dissassembled the forward seat of the dinette and began the process of conversion to a Barber Chair. Spent much time taking exacting measurements even if I don't know exactly what to do with them. Also UPS delivered the 14lb Delta, still waiting on the rode.

Yesterday I went out cruising and fishing to try out the new drop curtain and heater. Nice set up. It was overcast, a bit of rain, the temperature about 45 degrees. (The fishing was ok.) After about 3 hours on the water, I lite the Dickenson heater. I was really surprised at how much heat it put out. I had only used it in the boat storage unit while working on the boat. Today I had the center piece of the drop curtain removed, and the heater, with the fan on low, kept the cabin area very warm. It ran well while fishing and also while I was underway. Now, I just have to figure an easy way to get more of the heat forward into the V-berth. Maybe a small portable fan. Anyway, the heater is a hit. :thup It made the overcast day feel like :hot . What did I do today? Removed the 2 Meter Ham radio and antenna from Anna Leigh. Called C-Dory to check on the cost of a radar arch. Got a bid from BrokenLegDave on an intregrated Gps/Plotter/Radar/Digital Sounder/Icom 402 for the new 25. And made plans with Pat and Patti to meet them at Matia Is. tomorrow. Spend the night on the hook and what-ever. They assured me that they would have enough martini material to keep me lubricated. Kate is just getting over a serious cold so is staying home.

So far I haven't gotten a thing done on our boat but I did get by and check out the work Mike is doing on the TyBoo. After seeing the things Mike has done the small factory installed words "Cruise Ship" really have some meaning. There are more new wood goodies in there than on a Nordic Tug, and they all look neat and even do more than just one thing. He's got bins that hang off cabinet doors to hold stuff and when closed they also hold the set of drawers behind them in place. To cool. That Kay is a lucky woman. And the quality of his projects is such that I don't want to be hearing any Martha Stewart wise cracks from him any more. The new TyBoo is turning into a fish yacht.

Thanks Tim. That's quite a compliment coming from the original cork floor guy. And Martha should be getting out soon.

Now then - wait until you get a load of the oatmeal bin.

I got my new hydrophone wet. It works on a 9V battery and has a sensor that you lower into the water 45 feet, and I hooked its output up to an FM transmitter so that I could listen over the CheckRaise's stereo. The orcas presently in Hood Canal are still 50 miles south of my slip, so I settled for some harbor seals, who, apparently, make no sounds whatsoever underwater. I was bobbing there and watching them frolic for about a half hour when a sound erupted over the stereo. It sounded like someone running the teeth of a comb over a microphone. Within minutes, harbor porpoises appeared all around my boat. This, I decided on the spot, was one of the coolest things ever.

An hour later when I was doing 28 knots, an adult porpoise appeared not 10 yards off my starboard bow. Still very much a newbie, I just about had a heart attack. That's one big animal, especially at that speed. I kept my course, and I hit the trim in order to create a huge bow wake. The porpoise wasn't buyin' what I was sellin,' but still—quite the fun day.

After getting the tax stuff ready for the accountant, I was able to get the carpet up on the overhead. I had it cut in three pieces. Two side sections and one big chunk for the center raised section. The side pieces weren't bad to put up but trying to line up and get right a 4' X 7' floppy piece of headliner was interesting to say the least. The overhead of the v-berth was a piece of cake compared to this large section but I did manage to get it up. If others give it a try an extra hand could be useful or maybe don't try to cut the material quite so tight like I did. I cut all the pieces out of a 6' wide strip and only had about a inch total for overlap.

Anyway it's up and Judy likes it so all thats left is a bit of trimming.

three trips so far and no post here yet. what the hell am i thinking.

trip one. the day after we picked the Susan E. up from les Susan had to work and I had the day off. so I trailered the Susan E down to kenmore and launched by my self. this is such a easy boat to launch for one guy, i just love it. there is no pier at the kenmore launch at it was still easy. From there i ran down the lake and played/learned the boat. I just love how it handles and rides. if you all think a c-dory is hard on your back, then i have a starcraft to sell you. ( really its for sale). I turned in to the lake mont cutt and slow cruised all the way to the pier on lake union in front of susans office to pick her and one of the other girls up for lunch. we ran over to Ivan's and had lunch then i dropped them back at work so I could go play some more.

trip two. When we picked up the susan E the 4 inch drop of my hitch was way to low for the new trailer. So les gave me his 2 inch drop so i could get home. Well I have had it for two weeks and was feeling guilty about it. a hitch is to heavy to mail to him and why drive up to e.q. when you can cruise up in a c-dory. we left everett at one because i was showing the old boat to some one in the morning. the water was nice and the wind was not bad. there was a lot of wood floating around and we had to keep a look out for it the whole way up and back . then there are the thousands of crab pots. the trip was about 40 miles each way and we burned about 20 gallons of fuel. we did not take the shortest route and we ran at everything from 11 mph to almost 30 mph ( the wife has not weighed down the boat just yet but she's working on it.) again i just love the way this boat runs. Hell heat and window wipers are just heavenly. We where going to lunch at la connor but with the late start it was not to be. Wee got home just before dark as it was.

trip three
Today my good fiend cliff and I went fishing in area 10. we left everett at 9 and where down a kingston by 10:15. the weather was rough as hell and cold. It was a joy to fish in a boat that steers its self in a straight line while i rig up the down riggers and set out lines. Then to go in out of the wind into a heated cabin was beyond belief. the auto pilot works great ,but the tracking to a waypoint set up leaves a lot to be desired. it may just need some tuning on my part but it wandered all over the place. Well after no fish at kingston we ran over to edmonds and did manage one black mouth to about 10 lbs but lost it on the prop (in neutral) or the trim tab. anyway it beat yard work.

So thats what i have been doing with my c-dory lately.

Not doing much to C-Lou except for a little "permadorking" around.

I'll second Tim's motion on Mikes cabin work. I got to see the Tyboo 25 this weekend and if mike hadn't of told me, I would of thought he purchased all that nice shelving and cabinet work at a high end furniture store. Beautiful work!

Ray, you're going like those trim tabs, especially with all that ice you pack with you. When I installed mine it was a quick and easy job....I didn't mess around with any durn screws, just use some large framing nails and bend um over on the inside.

At Home Depot they have access panels for plumbing manifolds. These are a square flat plastic panel with a spring loaded catch that allow you to cut hole and pop the panel in to cover it up. I gots one doing duty under the forward port seat and another smaller one covering the fuse block. The beauty of these is that you can just pop them off and put them aside unlike a door which is always in the way. I never was to keen on having to dig my way into the fuse block, now I have instant access

Went to West Marine today and picked up a copy of 48 North. I read a cute letter to Jo Bailey & Carl Nyberg. Well I was surprised when I read it was from a regular at the the C-Brat pub. Nice story Tim & Judy.
Look out Catman, you've got some competition.
FYI. Feb issue of 48 North, page 18

Thanks for the head's up, Terry. I'll pick one up at West Marine on the way home. Way to go, Tim and Judy. Though its readership is folks with big, tall poles jammed amidships, I like reading 48(degree symbol º) North.

Put the boat in the water at 9AM and headed across Rosario. Hadn't checked out Center Island so went through Lopez Pass and circled the island. Two of our C-Brats have homes there.Pretty cool little island. Headed then north and around Lopez to Friday Harbor. Made a call at the Market Place, a big grocery there and dropped off some brewery samples. Had lunch with two friends at a nice little Thai Restaurant. Back east over Lopez and over and across Rosario and down the west side of Cypress Is. Back to Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes for a little shopping and then back across the 1 mile of Guemes Channel to Guemes Is. Boat is all rinsed and back in the garage at 4PM. Beautifull weather. About 35º when I left and 55º when I returned. ( How about those little º's Brock)

What little Os you talkin' 'bout, you mean these guys? °°°°°°°°°. We drivin' you crazy yet?

Oh, man! Not you, too. I was groovin' on your little water tale, and then, wham! hit with little 0's. I mean, o's.

OK, today, Saturday February 12, we went out of Shilshole with prospective purchasers of Daydream for a sea trial. Out for an hour or longer, they loved it, they really put her through her paces too...keeping our fingers crossed here.

Took the SeaDNA out for an hour or so for a birthday cruise/fishing trip on Lake Washington today. Bright and sunny (exactly the opposite of the forecast) with about 10-15kt of wind from the south. Didn't catch anything but had a nice time. Got back to the launch at Kenmore to discover that the Vehicle Use Permit must have blown off the dash when I closed the door and was "rewarded" with a $66 ticket. Hopefully, an image of the permit and an explanation will get me off the hook... If not, I guess I'll have to actually affix the sticker to the window (I HATE stickers/tape on perfectly good windows... and wish they had those plastic peel off jobbies for this purpose).
