SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

I took a little cruise up the ICW today and met up with Larry and Tracy on the Saint Johns. We cruised into downtown Jacksonville to the The Landing and had a nice lunch and some good conversation. The weather was beautiful with very little wind. On my way home I stopped just long enough at Nassau Sound to catch two nice fat whiting for supper. Life is good

Got lucky and found a plastic tray in the garage that fits nicely in between the throttle and the hull. :thup Seemed a shame to waste such a handy spot. Now it's a place for the emergency gear, flare gun, fog horn etc. :wink More pictures soon. Jack
 
OUCH,
Sea Angel just had the 100hr service done, 4" SS bow chocks mounted , along with the addition of a door to the overhead shelf. NOW the First Mate will not have to wear a hard hat when sitting forward giving me 'directions' as stuff and charts fall off the shelf. You might say I had a busy week.

Now to get the hull wet. I hope I don't have to wait till after my rescheduled hearth cath diagnostic procedure on the March 3rd.

Just spent the morning doing spring cleaning on the boat. I added bleach to the water tank and flushed it through all the hoses and hot water tank and then after a rest, flushed it all clear. I like to do that once a year. As I use the boat all months of the year the water is changed often anyway. Replaced the two plastic "L" fittings on the hot water tank with brass, before they failed.
Washed the boat and vacuumed everywhere.
 
With 70F weather in Feb could not resist. We stopped working on C-Lover,
loaded up and cruised over to Ft. McRee to spend the night. Grilled a RibEye. Had a glass of wine(or two) and watched a beautiful sunset. Walked on the beach for a couple of hours this morning before cruising home.. Some photo's in album.

Sunday was spectacular. We woke up to a hazy overcast, so after breakfast and the Sunday paper, I pumped up the inflatable and went around the boat with a scrub brush (yeah, I read that thread on maintenence :wink: ). No critters and the slime came off pretty easy, thanks to the bottom paint. While I worked on the bottom, Joan cleaned rust stains and metal topside. In a couple hours, Wild Blue was sparkling. By the time we were done, it was close to noon and the sun was out and the sky a clear blue. We decided to treat ourselves with a cruise along SPI. Within a mile and a half of our house, fog rolled in (??), sometimes so thick you couldn't see 100 yards in front of the boat. Radar works. Another 5 or 6 miles, and it was clear again. And stayed that way the rest of the day. And what a day: temp around 80 and just a very light breeze. We were home before sunset for margaritas, on the deck, overlooking Wild Blue. (Yes, WB got a thorough washdown and flushing when we got home).

Saturday got the wiring all squared away on Daydream (keeping fingers crossed, anyway), and Sunday changed out the lower unit lube on the Johnson 40 and lubed all the lube points in the engine, steering ram and tilt mechanism per the manual. Saturday night we had a real treat, joined Caryn (C-Dancer), Roger and Joyce (SeaDNA) and Mike and Jan (Kazoo II) at Vino Bella in Issaquah to listen to the cool sounds of the Peter Jamero Project. Peter (also C-Dancer!) plays electronic keyboards, and his group features a sax, bass and drums. It was a great show!
 
Picked up Bootleg Hooch from the shop yesterday. New Yamaha 9.9 kicker with remote throttle, and gear select installed. What a sweet set up. I can now start, change gears, throttle up or down, stop, and raise or lower kicker from the helm. The only thing I have to do at the cockpit is hook up the steering tie bar. Today spent the day adding the prop guard, and making a new tie bar as the new motor sits higher and about 2inch more to the port side than old one. Also replaced trailer winch cable. I really enjoy working on the boat. Almost as much as being out on it. Fun day!

Most people think I am looking for sympathy, but I am only relating what happened.

My wife and I took a cruise on the Nordam from the 6th to the 16th of February. Since we returned, the weather in New England has been one snow storm after another. I noticed that I was sleeping late, getting up, reading in my lounge chair, and falling asleep. I could just not get moving. It was like the only thing to look forward was lunch.

Yesterday, the weather was warm and I took the cover off of my C-Dory and did a little puttering. I then went on to do other things and noticed that I felt more awake and alert. The back of the winter weather has been broken, hopefully.

Is this happening to some of you?

Is just the act of getting on the boat, even when it is on land enough to change our attitudes. I think so.

Just an idea.

I've spent the last couple of days puttering on Constant Craving with a few improvement.

1. The new GPS puck is on and working!!! Yippie
2. The new mount for the anchor light is now on the radar arch and working (no smoke yet).
3. The new style fascia boards are in and look good. More important, the cleats that hold them to the hull are resecured and resealed. No water intrusion.
4. Installing some spring clamps to hold a Mag-light. It would be nice to keep it in one spot and not have to search everytime I want to use a flashlight.
5. Still need to replace lower unit fluids, but that's coming soon.
6. Really need to get the bride, boat and me to the water!!!

We feel (a bit) sorry for the folks who live up north and can't boat thruout the yr. Mon. looked to be a nice day in Eastern NC, temp. in upper 60's, so we got some lunch (Subway's) and headed out to find a place to eat. We keep the boat in Duck Creek Marina, just across from New Bern, on the Neuse River. The river runs about from NW to SE, from town down about 15 miles, past Minnesott Beach and then around to Oriental and the Pamlico Sound. It's over 3 mi. wide for most of that. The temp was in the hi-60's, but the wind was getting up over 15mph, coming straight up the river, and getting sloppy. We headed over to town and the Trent River, which ends at town, but comes in from the west, is relatively narrow, and shelter from the SE wind. We went about 10 mi. up the Trent, anchored, and had lunch. We'd passed a few folks fishing along the way, and one kayaker, slowed down off plane for each. The kayaker came along past us after a while, and then one more after him, who we hadn't seen earlier. He had a long "cruising" kayak, was moving right along, so we may not have passed him.
We headed back home, spent a total of abt 4 hrs out. This Feb. had been unusually warm here, quite a few days in the 60's, a cupl over 70. When we were sailing, the previous 8-9 yrs, we sometimes didn't get out during Feb., but had rarely missed a month thru the yr.
The pic shows New Bern by air, looking up the Neuse, which is about a mile wide at the bridge, and the Trent coming in from the left. Sorry it's a bit fuzzy, the original was better.

Thurs. is supposed to be in the mid-60's, sunny, only 5mph wind from the NE, we may do the same thing again, only go down river.
It'd be fine if the weather stayed like this until May and then warmed up a bit ;-) :wink:
 
Finally decided I better do something about the reverse lockout on the EZ Loader trailer for Captain's Cat since I plan to haul it on Friday to do my big electronics and A/C install. Took it to my favorite repair shop to put it on, since I can't flush/bleed the brake system easily and anyway, it needs an inspection since it's over 3000# gross (way over :shock: ). Should get it back tomorrow and then, on the high tide Friday AM, out she comes. I plan to try to take step by step pix of the installs for the forums.

Well the Capital Sea shows just under 20 hours and the Honda 90 will go in for initial service and to have some rough running a no wake speeds issues looked into. Just got the boat back from my dealer, lake Union Searay of Fife who finished up the punch list and did an extensive leek test and addressed a few above water entry points. So now she should run nice and dry.
I am 90% on rigging and outfitting.
I have installed three sets of jump seat mounts for my two seats, two outside and one in side, which creates a 4th dry and warm seat for cold days with four aboard.
Rod storage below the window opposite the door, SS bottle opener, hat and coat hooks, chart rack behind the stove and so on. The portapotty is in the garage where it will stay till we venture out more than a few hours from a dock with guests aboard. Till then, the icechest makes better use of the center space up in the bow.
Though decent Salmon season is a ways off, crabbing is closed, as is shrimp, I have tested the downriggers and rod holder placement, crab pulley extension and my shrimp puller.
I still need to pull together a set of spares for all the lights, fuses, filters, but have plenty of time for that.
I also plan to look into replacing the tachometer gauge light with a red bulb and I need to make up the lines for mooring.

Anchored in Andrews bay tonight. Stacy and I decided at the last minute this afternoon to throw some food in the boat and head out for a night in the boat. Beautiful evening and only three boats in the bay so far. I expect to see Pat Anderson at any time :D - but no sightings so far.
 
Went down to the boat house, fired up the generator on the pier (don't have the power/water hooked up yet though the lines from the new house are in to the head of the pier) and lowered Captain's Cat into the water for the first time in '08 since winterizing.

It started right up, both engines, no problem. While running to warm up, the oil warning light went off on the stbd engine, indicating a 200 hour oil change necessary (the port one went off late in the season last year and I decided to wait to change both at the same time). Still have a problem with stbd bilge pump, apparently no power, need to troubleshoot. Picked it back up out of the water on the lift. Will haul next weekend, daughter and 2 gkids coming on Friday, we want to take them out for a short spin, they haven't seen the new boat yet.

Then, on Sat or Sunday, out she comes for the big electronics/AC install fiesta! I plan to document each install with pix and narrative.

Finally got a chance to go out and just putt around and relax. Put in at Point Defiance, Tacoma; cruised across to Quartermaster Harbor looking for a breakfast place, no luck. Headed back to Foss Waterway and had breakfast and a beer at The Dock. After that, slowly motored to the end of Foss then headed back to the launch. Sat off the launch for about 30 minutes watching a comical show of a group launching a small run about.

Overall a great morning. Water was flat the entire time so I got a chance to open it up and start to learn her personality.
 
Stopped off at Tom Cat Central (West Division) on my way to Salt Lake from San Diego. That is, Ike and I visited with Brent and Dixie in Richfield. It was great to see them again and hear all their Baja stories going back to the 70s.
