SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

I took out C-FLE yesterday for a little exercise. The Atlantic was almost like a lake near shore due to a west wind in the morning. Fished a little with not much luck. Caught a blow fish a sting ray and a flying fish. When I got back to the boat lift I did a little clean up work. I saw and advertisement the other day on Ship Shape TV for a cleaning product called "Spray Nine." It was as most demonstrations this stuff was suppose to do everything but grow hair. I had picked a bottled of it up to add to my growing collection of stuff that doesn't work. I tried it on some mildew on the sealant in my cockpit at the bulkhead. I've tried a bunch of different products on this including bleach with little results. To my surprise this stuff works pretty darn good.

Tell us, what are you using for bottom paint? That kind of service is pretty rough, in the salt water most of the time, drying out to trailer, bumps & grinds trailering, etc.
Different stuff works in different places. Up here, in the brackish water of the upper Neuse year 'round, we've found Pettit (sp?) Trinidad SR (Slime Release) good. We had it on our sailboat, no problems, finally got pulled after about 5 yrs, looked great, so we had it on the CD-25. It's not smooth and fast like you'd use on a trailer boat, but nothing grows on it. Put in on Knot Home in July, have had her out twice since, it held up super, tho' there had been a little problem with adherence, maybe the epoxy barrier wasn't roughed up quite right in one area, so that got taken care of. I wasn't sure how well it's hold up under power boat speeds vs sailing, but looks good to us.

Hi Al and Pat,
The Laguna Madre has a higher salinity content than the Gulf; the shallow water with limited flushing is the cause. Combine that with our warmer water and it makes for some rapid critter growth. Interesting concept - we get a different growth on the port and starboard sides... one side is near the dock and gets no sunshine, the other side gets sun and more water movement from the tide and the circulation in our canal.
Having explained that, we have had luck with Interlux MICRON CSC Plus on our boats. It is an ablative with a higher copper content. It remains effective after being pulled out of the water, and gave us good service in the cooler water of the PNW, fresh water lakes, and our home area. When it is time for more paint, we have been able to light sand and paint right over the old paint. Epoxy barrier coats, one contrast color coat, then two final color coats. These were applied with a brush and roller on Wild Blue and are pretty smooth. On our tri, we had the bottom sprayed with the same stuff - smooth, but pricier. Since we're not racing the C-Dory :wink: , we didn't feel the need to spend the extra bucks.
It's been three months since I last cleaned the bottom... as it gets warmer, I'll need to do that a little more frequent.

Well, It is spring, 28F here this morning and partly cloudy, with forecast NE10-25 with wind waves 1-3. BUT WE WENT ANYWAY, based on the satellite weather picture and the need for a water fix. Made arrangements to take a couple of new C-Brats out for a spin, and we met friends at the state park dock, had hot chocolate, cinnamon rolls, muffins and good times. The day turned great, only a bit of the predicted breeze, and worked on plans to go to Princes Louisa late summer. We made it, the first anniversary of our first C-Dory weekend, and it was worth it. the Wallas worked like a charm, and the season is begun.

Spent the weekend fishing with Tom Elliott in the Anacortes Salmon Derby on the Tom Cat. Crappy weather (cold, rain, some snow) Saturday. Sunday ended up with at least one sun break. No fish on Saturday. Sunday we got one marginal 5-pounder about 11:30 AM. We would have had to boat from Cypress Island to Washington Park (to get the fish checked in) and then by boat or by car to Cap Sante to get it weighed--all by noon. Needless to say, we did not make it.

After the Derby BBQ and awards ceremony we checked out John Schuler's new "C-Dory on Steroids" -- a 32' Coastal Craft.

Spent Saturday fishing on the Columbia North of Hayden Island. Weather was not so good (cold and rain, a little hail), but the First Mate caught her first salmon - a 15 pd Chinook. The Wallas kept cutting out on us - but that is a different story.
 
Saw a 22' cruiser leaving the Newport docks saturday. Cabernet trim with twin 50's (I think). Looked like they were heading to the crabbing grounds.
 
I took Constant Craving and a couple of my former work life colleagues up to Lake Merwin (Lewis River, WA) for a little kokanee fishing, and with one exception, had a wonderful day. The fish were not particularly on the bite, but we took two home for a breakfast or dinner.

I learned a real good lesson though. Always check to see that the kicker is out of gear before trying to start it. I managed to jerk the starter cord handle through my fingers and ended up rupturing a blood vessel in a finger. Besides being about twice the size as normal, it's now a wonderful purple color. A si es la vida!!!

:D The letters ? name ? came - Loose Nut got name on port side last night - then skeeters drove us in, stbd name went on this AM. Was in Staples yesterday - spotted Washington Gazetteer and bought same - gotta know more about these places the PNW Brats keep talking about! We just might make it up there one of these days....

Yes Steve, I have also tried the old start the kicker while in gear trick. With the same result. Funny how pain helps us remember things.

Thirty minutes ago, I came into the house after giving Sea Shift a fresh water bath after a delightful afternoon and evening cruise. This morning (actually yesterday, since it is now past midnight) I got off work at 0900 HRS, hurried home and after a few chores was in the water at the Everett Launch by noon. A couple of buddies joined me and we cruised up to Coupeville for a walk about. Just beyond Langley we were joined by two Gray Whales that put on a fairly good show for us. The day was further enhanced by a gorgeous sunset! (Since it was a bit chilly, we had the Wallas fired up, but with the chill, there were very few boats out cruising, so we had the complete dock at Coupeville to ourselves).

Have I ever told you how much I enjoy our C-Dory?..... :smilep
 
Torn tendon + rotator cuff repair to my left shoulder and I'm having to sit around like a dummy with my arm in a sling. :sad Boat bottom still needs painting and the Doctor said to forget about pulling any crab traps this summer. :cry I've only had the boat in the water once since I bought it....RATSENFRATS !!! :amgry Jack

Been awhile since I've been able to post on this thread :cry:
Went down to the landing today and met with the installer to locate where I want the gauges and items on the helm dash.
Met with Peggy, our canvas gal, so she could see what needed to be done in order to transfer the canvas over from Fishtales.
Met with Eric, our Honda dealer, to verify the installation of the EFI90 (the factory was supposed to install this) and the 9.9 kicker. Hope to get in on Friday to start install of the engines.

Getting closer, she's starting to look like a boat now.
 
Had it out for a few days on the Snake river, saw a guy in a row boat
doing just that from dam to dam and was doing 3.5kt with oars. Then
up to Lake Roosevelt and well its very low and if you could launch a boat
you would be very afraid of going aground. I passed! Then up to the
San Juan's for a few days and now I gotta clean the boat! Made a error
in judging flow and went through Deception Pass at water speed of 8.1 and
trust me do not want to ever, ever do that again. Boat speed had to be
7kts faster than that. Was not fun! Gotta give the little tug credit it did
pull it off but boy those whirlpools were as big as the boat. I am starting
to shake just thinking about it again. Well out to clean the boat!

Well, since SleepyC came to us used, and under a different name (Jim's Dorie), one of the things that had been done to it was mounting stainless rod holders along the aft portion of the outside cabin walls, both port and starboard. After a bit of calling, official C-Dory Decals were obtained, and conditions were finally right to apply them last Sunday. Cleaning, measuring and practice got it finally done and SleepyC is now an official C-Dory. Now I'm sure, we won't get stopped by passersby nearly as often. Fewer questions, and not nearly as many quizzical looks. It'll be really obvious, it's a C-Dory.

Since C-dawgette is not one for wanting gifts and fuss on Mother's Day, I suggested we do a "practice overnighter." We had yet to spend a night on the boat, and with the Friday Harbor trip coming up I wanted to iron out any problems we might encounter. So Saturday afternoon I'm on the phone with Swantown Marina in Olympia reserving a slip for the night. We launched about 5 PM from Solo Point at Ft. Lewis and got into the marina about 7. Saw some dolphins along the way. Pretty nice ride even with the drizzle and short stretch of bumpy water.

We got tied up and went foraging for a place to enjoy a beer. I think we walked half way across Olympia before settling on a pizza joint. Got back to the boat and climbed into the berth. Watched a movie on the laptop and then got a good sleep.

Next morning after waking, we took a quick shower and headed out. Saw Gee Jay tied up at the Northern Point restaurant probably enjoying a Mother's Day brunch.

Overall, pretty good trip for our first one. Looking forward to many more.
 
We took Shan's sister out for her first ride in a C-Dory. Left Everett around 11 am - Sunday Mothers Day. Skies cleared - water was flat and calm. Roared over to Langley and docked at the Marina. Walked up the hill into town and had a nice lunch. Back down to the marina, wind picked up, small waves, 1/2 foot - back to Everett. At the dock by 3:30. Nice quick trip - good to be out on the water.

Hey Tom (and Shan),

Sounds like a nice day trip. Just wondering, have they improved the Langley marina? Last time we were there, it seems like they were doing some work. I just remember a real small, crowded little marina that seemed very tight for manuevering. Is that still the case?
